I think it might. We have a heavyweight title unification match. The first one in many years. We also might see two Hall of fame bound fighters in Mayweather and Clazaghe win one more big match, then retire un-defeated.
I hope Bernard "i'll never let a white boy beat me" Hopkins fights Calzaghe. The heavyweight unification fight is unique for sure, it's been almost 10 years ago since Lewis had the unification fight. I just hope the winner doesn't get stripped for not fighting Julius Long or some Don King recycled heavyweight like Golota or Mesi. I very much hope to see Cotto-Mayweather, too. He's the only one around 147 that i can see beating Mayweather.
Hopkins has never run from a fight, but htis might be a first as Clazaghe would easily out point him. I beleive it takes a full year for an alphabet organization to strip a fighter, so the winner of Klitschko vs Ibragimov will have time to fight the winner of Chagaev vs Skelton. Three belts by one man is enough to re-kindle the lineal chain.
In 2002, he offered to fight Calzaghe for which was a very bad deal for Calzaghe. Joe took the offer anyway, and the next day, Hopkins declined his own deal asking more money. He priced himself out of a rematch with Jones too (while the only guys he can sell tickets to are insomniacs). Add to that the fact that his opposition has been pretty poor and you can be pretty sure that he runs from dangerous fights. He still accomplished a lot though, don't get me wrong.
