Yea Im sure Ross Purrity would of striked fear into the hearts of many in the 80s. The name Ross is so terrifying.
Helenius is the only one to worry about, Thompson is old, Dimitrenko sucks, Fury Sucks, and SNV is done.
But he still has to be able to beat them... Even Tyson had trouble with the bigger heavyweights in his prime, and they weren't that big.
It'd take one hell of a man at this point. Of course you got the K Bros currently, but as others have mentioned the size of some of even the lesser guys are enormous! It's hard to be 5'10 even say a solid 220, or something, and fight against a guy 6'5 250 pds that's pretty cordinated, has a good jab, and either can do a minimal inside job at fighting OR clinch. As time goes on people just keep getting bigger and bigger, and it's not rare that somebody is 6'5 or 6'6. It use to be that not many people were this size, or they were simply skinny, weak, and uncordinated. This is definitely the time of the giants, and it is also the time of people getting lazier. Even if there were a next Mike Tyson, much like Mike later on his career, they don't want to train, they don't want to dedicate themselves, and they don't want to take the time to master there craft. A lot of HWs come in fat and out of shape. Tyson was a beast, but even in his prime I dunno if I'd bet he beats somebody like Vitali for instance. Wlad he could crack that chin, and panic him (as long as Tyson wouldn't gas), but against a big guy who wouldn't take his crap (as Douglas proved) Tyson wouldn't last. So unless we get the second coming of Tyson, or somebody who's perhaps more of a beast, that's actually dedicated to the sport, then NO
No he didn't other than Douglass Tyson beat the crap out of everyone before he went to jail, the fighters who bothered him most, were guys who either had quick hands or moved alot. even after going to jail and being rusty he chopped down guys like Bruno, Saverese, Francis, and Golota with No problems. He only struggled with big guys after he got old.
Some would say Toney is already dominating If all this jokers wouldnt duck him he would be undisputed right now
There have always been really tall guys in the hw scene, most of them arn't that good though. It's not about height, it's about skill. It's not the era of the "giants" at all, it's more than possible a shorter guy can become dominant when the brothers retire. The only great really tall hw fighters right now are the Klitschko's. I don't know about 5'10, but 6'2 yeah...
Of course a shorter guy could dominate. He'd have to be quick enough to get through the huge jabs of the brothers and the other tall fighters, and then would have to have the power to hurt them. Since he would be quick enough to get under the jab, he would also be quick enough to avoid getting tied up when he hurts the big guys, and will also be able to chase them when they try and move backwards. Kinda like an early Tyson.:nut
