Will a good boxer always defeat the brawler?

Yeah, I'm using brawler/puncher interchangeably where both are boxers who place more emphasis on offensive punching, be it power or volume.
Foreman was mostly a power puncher where Maidana is a volume puncher but I place both in the brawler category simply because neither have the boxing skills or styles to increase their chances of winning by out-boxing their opponents.

 

First, I wouldn't include Bute in the boxer list.
Prior to Froch, Bute wasn't exactly known for out boxing his opponents. He
was starting to be known a being an one uppercut KO artist, right?
Two fights later he was KTFO, and we see how strong his mentality is and how he made a comeback, right.

Secondly, when one of the world's best known brawler/Punchers lost by KO, George Foreman, he almost went insane and had to turn to religion to save not only his soul, but his sanity. Only when he learned to imitate the mentality of his rival boxing opponent was he able to make a comeback, years later.

Author Abrabam is a brawler/puncher who usually waits until his opponents slow down in the later rounds before he unleashes a power punch that generally wins him the fight.
During the super 6 this strategy didn't work so well for him being his opponents were not only able to out slug him, but outbox him.
Following the S6 Abraham reevaluted his career strengths and has limited himself to competing at MW in German among the lesser talented B level boxers.:yep

 

Maidana is as good an example of a swarmer as we will see today. Using him as an example, a good boxer like Mayweather will beat a swarming puncher like Maidana 10/10 times.
Now a swarmer like Aaron Pryor I would have listed as a boxer, because although Pryor swarmed, his boxing ability was very high, well above those of Maidana over almost any other swarmer/puncher.

 

Fair enough.

I'd say a boxer like Lara will beat a brawler like Maidana 9/10 times. :yep
