If you will google "Arthur Abraham," you will see that he plans to fight a tune-fight on February 26th. Will one tune up help AA overcome his deficiencies?
Don't know. I think it would be best for him to give up his luxuary life - that would help to bring back his determination and his will to win. Stylewise he will always have his problems with taller fighters... ...which doesn't mean that he cannot win against them. He can be a beast.
I just dont think he is a super Middle , it really is amazing , how the 8lbs can make such a difference. Look , he can clean out middle easy , Im just not sure he can get down to 160 safely anymore.
Pirog is 6' 1", has good skills, and very heavy hands. He is exactly the type of fighter Abraham struggles with. Martinez is WAY to fast for Abraham. The half drunk, hung over, weight drained and dehydrated version of Pavlik that Martinez beat would treat AA worse than Froch did. (He may no longer be a factor at 160, but if he stays at 160 when he comes back, AA simply can't beat him, and never could.)
I take your points, but AA's main asset is his physical strength, he loses up at super. He has never been quick , but cuts the ring off well. Get a Sturm or Sylvester , and he wins big. Pirog is way too green right now for AA, AA no matter if he doesnt like tall fighters would just cut Pirog to pieces. Martinez is quick , but is he quicker than Dirrell, he cannot run all night??
I don't see Arthur ever cleaning out 160. Even as far back as Abraham/Ikeke it was easy to see that AA would struggle with height and reach, especially if you put some power with it. He also struggles with speed and movment. That came out very clearly with Ayala. If we still consider Pavlik a middleweight, that would mean that every single top middleweight is either very tall with heavy hands, or is a very fast and mobile fighter. A Febuary 26th tune up will probably push Ward/Abraham back to June, and that will most likely push the semi-finals back to October. These guys agreed to fight 3 consecutive top level opponents when they signed up. The tune up is bull****. How much longer should we let this cluster **** continue?
AA is way too small for SMW. I saw him and Sylvester stand next to eachother in Berlin and Sylvester totally dwarfs him, although he is a MW.
Is Ward injured? If Ward can't compete until May or June, it's ok for Abraham to take a tune-up. Otherwise, it's not.
God Almighthy couldn't help Abraham now. He's been found out against decent fighters and Froch and Dirrell showed if you keep circling to the left Abraham will never have the reach to land his big right. If Abraham doesn't have a static target in front of him he's lost. Any boxer with half decent movement beats AA and that means any of the top contendes at middle or SMW.
