Both good/Bad, Tho IMO It's a dangerous thing for AA. It defo could pump him up post Froch, But at the same time he can't afford to suffer any type of set-back like a clash of heads or afford risking an injury. (The down time between fights for the Froch fight defo messed w/AA's psyche going in) ^Not saying the outcome would be different. But clearly "Downtime" troubled Abraham he even mentioned it on one of the fight camp "Showtime" episodes, So who know's maybe a tune-up would serve him best?
If AA can get so badly out boxed by froch i dont think a brain transplant will even do him that much good, dirrell has movement and speed and we thought ok maybe thats what did him, but froch did a job on him even worse and thats really gota hurt because froch is not a world beater
No. He is at a level that he doesnt need tune ups. What he needs is another elite fight which he can win and his confidence will be back.
Let me put it this way. I've watched the fight at least 10 times. In the first 3 rounds alone Pavlik missed no fewer than 12 opportunities to land flush right hands (4 to the head and 8 to the body.) Was there ever another fight where Pavlik repeatedly missed opportunities to land the right hand? Martinez did a great job of beating the man in front of him, and no way in hell can you blame KP's problems on Martinez. I doubt if he was even aware of there extent. The fact remains that Sergio did not fight the same guy JT lost 2 fights to.
I don't think he should bother with a "tune-up." Why the **** does he need a "tune-up" for when he's been fighting regularly? Honestly, if he has to wait until the summer for Ward, AA should try and secure a big fight against Bute for early 11. It's make or break time for AA, we'll see if he's got what it takes to move in these circles, a "tune-up" or more accuratly, a stay busy fight, would be postponing the inevitable, whether it be good or bad.
Abraham does not have to "wait for Ward." It looks like AA's team feels like they need to teach this kid some new tricks before they stick him in with Ward.
His team are deluded then. AA is what he is, a tune-up won't change that in any significant way. They should bring him back to basics, and box to his strengths, not try and be something he's not.
He needs to learn alot:- - Lack of head movement - No defense to body shots - Slow feet - Plodder - Lack of feints Those are things he can improve But things like switching stances and laterally moving are things he wont be able to do.
Does banging some slutty scank shortly after getting dumped help you move on? Yup! I say King Arthur should go have his way with some tomato can so that he can feel a lot better about himself for the ward fight. He has had two straight losses you know. On a serious note, I've been thinking about this bout quite a bit and I believe AA has a much better chance of beating ward. People make Ward out to be this killing machine and a baby b-hop. Most publications have Ward firmly in the top ten p4p but my question is based on what? Miranda and Bika both gave Ward hard fights. He proved in both that he's got a very credible chin and that he's got a lot of good defensive moves but I thought he didn't exactly show himself to be on a different level in either fight. Infact I thought he looked hurt several times in the bika fight. Worse yet in the Bika fight it looked like Ward was too heavily relying on his inside-mauling fighting game. He's got a lot more then that up his sleeve but he might have descided that this is his identity as a fighter. He looked a little one demensional in that fight. Like he'd gotten used to fighting like that and didn't really have a good idea what to try if that b-hop **** didn't work. AA's been figured out so I'd imagine Ward to try to fight the same type fight as Dirrell and Froch fought. But if that doesn't work his mauling style will put him in perfect range for a couple of AA's pattended killer hooks and uppercuts. If Ward has to revert to his billy goat tatics and he might catch a couple of good shots and with AAs power that could easily be good night.
let me rephrase my question... Who do you think would win between Kelly Pavlik and Sergio Martinez if both are at their best?
At this point I would not touch that question unless I was allowed to follow Pavlik around and watch him stay sober, put in the maniacal kind of training he used to put in, make 160 comfortably, and have a great 8 week camp.
