Well, I wasn't referring to you, but you have read the posts and know the ESB mentality. I've just been on a 'pisser' for about a week now about the really stupid ****.
Nope. Just the stupid ****. Like this post. And news flash. This isn't news to anybody but you. There is nothing wrong with being a fan and intelligently discussing boxing opinions.
Well, no harm, no foul. But generally in discussions like this you might have to clarify by saying 'divsion elite' but most on this board reserve the term for the very best of boxing. But again, you are entitled to your opinion on who is "elite". Just be prepared to back it up with a thoughtful analysis. Tom is generally a good poster and is pretty much in line with what he says though. My original remarks were aimed at people that consider AA a true elite and will simply demote him if he gets beat by Pavlik instead of promoting Pavlik. I have NO trouble with people playing favorites based on geography. I do it myself. I just don't like people disprespecting a fighter on that basis. Well, any undeserved disprespect, but that is a whole other endless thread....
Man, you know that AA is my fav active boxer but I am kinda boxing scribe so I have to be neutral and objective, taking each and every aspect of the game in perspective. So I try to not come up with ambivalent meanings. Elite here is not in terms of division but as a whole in pro boxing, how you handle different styles and make your point vs. the best in the sport. Rather taking a step up than beating bottom feeders will for sure enhance a boxers chances to be called p4p, even if there are (narrow) losses on there resume. It's about competiveness. EIther that or you are as dominating as PBF (but even he had to prove to be one of the best or am I missing something?!)...
I believe Abraham will remain at the top at 168. IMO he beats Bute, Froch, Taylor, Balzay and all the others not named Kessler. I still have my doubts about who would win a fight between Kessler and Abraham. 2009 is probably gonna be Abraham's last year at 160lbs. It seems he is only interested in unification bouts with Pavlik and Sturm, maybe the winner of Winky vs PW, but after that he is done. A whole year is more than enough time to land these fights.
He didn't struggle in the rematch. PAv has been knocked down by lesser men so that evens your score with the anti-intrepid Miranda comment lol...
Good post. I believe that both PAv and AA are elite fighters for this reason. Boxing has about 6000 fighters in the world. One was ranked pfp while the other is on the verge of being ranked top 10 if not already top 10 pfp. Even if they are in people's top 20 fighters...they are elite. Most of us have seen both fight and consider them the elite middles of the world. Elite in boxing usually means who(fans) knows this fighter, or have seen this fighter in a good scrap, and they passed with flying colors. Some people don't consider Paul Williams elite because he only beat Margarito. So it depends in some situations.
I'm absolutley amazed that people are arguing over whether or not Arthur is "elite," and over how well he can do against the top dogs at 168. The man is seriously considering a voluntary title defense against Enrique ****ing Ornelas. He fought Ikeke for a vacant title that Taylor vacated. Ikeke never did anything substantial before or AFTER he fought Arthur. If AA fought and beat Zuniga, the Z man would be his best win to date, and you guys are arguing about whether or not he is ELITE:desk
Pav fights one way, and he won't ever change...and he won't ever be able to adapt to any boxer in the ring lol. Rather than unify against Abraham who had beaten Miranda, he went and fought ****en Gary Lockett lol...:nut He was exposed by Hop, and he'll be knocked out by Abraham, and that will be the end of Pav at this level. The man let ole Hop not only beat him, but embarrass him lol. Rubio might knock his ass out lol...
