He's always had potential, he's a good fighter, but he was overhyped. The expectations were set too high, doesn't mean he's a bad fighter. Whether or not he'll be "relevant" is too tough to call. He's still got potential and skills, he's just not elite. 1. He didn't get schooled by Ponce. 2. He struggled with Paulie because he struggles with volume punches. 3. He didn't struggle with Taylor lol he lost more rounds than Algieri but did Algieri score any knockdowns?
Broner has skills . Yet I don't see him being a champion @ 140 when Matthysse is in that same division . If he wants the belt , then a fight with Matthysse is inevitable and I don't like his chances in that fight .
Okay. I get what you mean here. He WAS discussed a lot but in my opinion he has not really backed that up. He has not really reached even close to his potential. I believe he becomes relevant when he is a proven entity that may alter the landscape in his weight class by beating the true top fighters. Fewer and fewer of us- I think- believe he will do that. (I feel sort of the same about Algieri... he was granted some attention and IMO proved he did not deserve it beyond possibly becoming a very popular punching bag for fighters that may need more aerobic work. Some of the public thought he was going to be relevant...) We really, however, ARE talking about the same thing and your question is valid. My answer is no, he will not become relevant... unless he changes. Like his hero, Floyd, he turns people off with his brashness... but there is a major difference- FLOYD HAS (for the most part) BACKED UP HIS TALK, is always in shape, etc... Broner not only bothers people, but he also doesn't work the way that top boxers do to stay on top of his craft. Given that, who needs him?
He's going to have to rebuild himself if he is to be. Right now, he's not nearly as good as he believes he is in his mind, and that's going to cause him a lot of problems if he continues with that thinking. He needs to get more humble so that he is more willing to learn and grow, just not sure if he'll be able to do that with his ego.
Isnt the fact that we can barely go a day without seeing a thread about him, proof that hes still relevant, in some eyes at least
How many fighters lost and recovered?, give the list a look and introduce yourself to the sport before further trolling.
Relevant as a risky B side yes. Relevant as an A side...not unless he stays below 147 and is carefully matched. Good enough to be a risky fight for most guys, but not good enough to dominate.
