I like joshua but this isn't a fight that is gonna make him. It's a stepping stone. Surely we all know this?
I'll be paying for it as overall it is a decent card and i watch all boxing. However, i am not happy that it is on PPV as the card contains no world title fights and of the top end fights on the card, Bellew v Masternek is the only fight most would say is a legit 50/50. AJ v Whyte is two unproven prospects going at it. It could be a life or death struggle or it could be a blow out. That adds an aura of intrigue, but if I'm paying extra for PPV i expect a potential equal matchup between two proven guys at the top level. Many people also view Eubank v Spike as an interesting side show, almost clown like with the usual Eubank shenanigans and Spikes odd antics. But, when they step into the ring most expect Eubank to take care of business and Spike to have only a punchers chance. You also have the factor that PPV stops the sport from growing as has been mentioned many times over the years.
So you think boxing is a BS sport Fair enough But then why are you coming onto a boxing forum in first place Find a sport Where the champions are better qualified for you I've seen plenty of great fights on smalltown shows way better than on the TV But the guys earning a fortune in comparison on TV are what the lower level guys aspire to Brutal sport and anybody earning a good living out of it - good luck to them If you don't like what you see walk away
Clearly though channels like BBC or ITV won't put up the money for the fights I like the fact you've at least weighed up this PPV and made a choice Some slag the PPV up just for the sake of it IMO
I can see why promoters use Sky as it pays better than the terrestrial channels, but this card shouldn't have been made as it could only make money as a PPV. This card could have been split into two or even three cards with the top three fights being the headliner. Instead Hearn has put three good sub world world title level fights on the same card and to pay everyone it has to be a PPV. It is a very good card, but a non PPV card if we look at the traditional model of PPV which is usually headlined by a world title fight between elite fighters. This is the problem with promoters, just like politicians, their plans are firmly entrenched in short termism. There is no long term thinking in what is best for the sport and ultimately, them. PPV may bring in more money, but if they invested in better non PPV cards and sometimes took smaller money from terrestrial channels to get to a bigger audience then long term they could earn more money from a bigger audience and the BBCs, ITVs and even Sky (non POV) would pay more for the fights.
This fight should be on channel 5 like Fury-Chisora 1 was. This fight isn't deserving of the ridiculous hype and the PPV status. Whoever wins deserves credit for the win but it's not exactly a fight to justify the hype that the win will undoubtedly provoke. It's a couple of prospects looking to break through, it's not worthy to be considered a top-flight match up.
Wrestling aint a sport. I know Sky Sports is PPV- that's the point- I have already paid £80 this month for Sky, when the only reason I have additional channels is incase there is boxing on- I don't think I have watched one premiership game from start to finish this season but I am funding that on a weekly basis then when it is time to watch a show involving MY sport I need to pay again?!??! It isn't a great card. but then few PPV cards these days are. PPV used to be for special events like Tyson vs Holyfield, now it seems to be for any old *******s that Eddie Hearn thinks he can sell to us mugs. Aye you're right if we don't like it, but we are boxing fans so we compromise our principles as it is better than watching X factor so we are being exploited by Hearn. If we want to watch boxing we don't really have much choice.
go cry some more. i take the good with the bad. just like everything in life. theres **** movies and then theres good movies but i wont stop watching movies altogether, that would be idiotic. same with boxing.
