Donaire has already been embraced just look at this forum. I've been following Donaire since before his fight with Vic D. He will only become a bigger star.

By Mexican accent, do you mean the accent of someone who was raised in Mexico? Well, of course, he doesn't have that accent. Oscar does have the accent that tells you he is a Mexican American.

Once again... there was politicking going on. Pacquiao is not only a great boxer, but he is also a congressman in the Philippines and is likely going to be a candidate for the Presidency in the future.

He can aspire but can he win? That's the question. His popularity is not a guarantee that he can win 14 years from now.

I don't know what you call that accent but I grew up with Mexican Americans. They do have some kind of accent because they grew up with Spanish-speaking parents. A regular white person doesn't talk like Oscar.

    Fernando vargas talks like that...

Wasn't that the hype surrounding the vargas/DLH fight? Vargas thought he wasn't a real mexican

I think he has a very good chance of becoming the President of the Philippines. Being popular sure doesn't hurt, but the fact is Manny works extremely hard as a servant of the people. It is this fact that will take him to the top, and not his exploits in the ring.

Oscar is a Mexican by convenience. Didn't he play out as a Mexican when he fought Pacquiao to stoke Filipino-Mexican rivalry. It's more of self-marketing than genuine love and pride for Mexico.

    As have I

Almost everyone I knew growing up had foreign parents, including me. Ranging from Carribean to Mexican to Russian, and everyone speaks the same way :huh

I think you're talking about Vargas has. Not DLH.

I beg to disagree. Pinoys have already learned their lesson electing celebrities to a political office. One example is popular actor Joseph Estrada who was deposed after two years in office. His fellow popular actor friend, Fernando Poe, lost to Gloria Arroyo. Many actors/actresses, basketball players, lost in the recent elections. My point is being popular is not a guarantee for winning the election.

Vargas really does talk with a cholo accent, that's a given. Oscar may not talk like a cholo but there are gonna be some words that he pronounces differently with some accent.
