Maidana is next in line, is this a too high risk for too low reward fight? Surely Amir needs to fight a Maidana and other dangermen in the division to prove he is a champion. I personally think Khan can outbox him. but if he does vacate who will they go for next? Will it be because there is more money elsewhere?
By the looks of it, Maidana will vacate his joke 'interim' title first so as to fight Alexander next for the WBC strap anyway:good. Talk of it being on a joint card with Khan-Ortiz as well: http://espn.go.com/sports/boxing/no...book/juan-diaz-paulie-malignaggi-settle-score (See 'quick hits' on the right- it's the fourth bullet point down) Any boxer would beat Maidana, IMO, so I think Alexander will win and would then have a unification fight with Mr Khan if and when he beats Ortiz:happy.
Let me start by saying that I believe this would be a very good fight, and would answer a lot of the questions that still remain regarding Khan. However, I think Warren and Sky might worry about signing and showing it, for the simple fact that in the build-up to the fight there will come a point where they are gonna have to divulge the fact that Maidana lost to Kotelnik the fight before Khan took the title from the Ukrainian. Joe public footie fans, the majority of the Khan audience, have no understanding of the whole "styles make fights" ****, and will not understand that this is in fact a potentially very good match-up. They will just think "this Maidana guy got beat by the guy who Khan beat easily for the title". And, coming as it does on the back of the Salita debacle, I just don't think Sky will go for that fight. As I said at the start though, I think this would be a great fight to test Khan.
I'd never thought from that perspective mate but it's a very good point! Especially when it would be a PPV fight.....I think your right with the Sky thing I'm with you in that Khan needs to prove a point, it would sell in the states after Maidana stopped Golden Boys next big thing. Would do well over there for his first fight state side:good
Alexander, Bradley, Maidana, Ortiz, Hatton etc There are alot of top fighters at 140. They will all have to face each other or quickly be hated on by the boxing community. Khan should fight a good guy.
warren probably is hoping maidana gives up the number 1 spot to fight alexander. means he'll be able to get khan an easier voluntary first
:good Also a bit saying Booth and Haye have asked Roach to help them out in preparation for the Ruiz fight. Nice.
Khan would whoop Ortiz, without question. It's a half decent fight to showcase himself in the US with...... better than beating an old, shot fighter - Ortiz is still a name, despite his quit job. The winner of Alexander vs Maidana would be great after that.
Yea sounds perfect, Khan wins, and somewhere down the line Hatton defeats urango again in a rematch, then defeats the Bradley-peterson winner, and we have a unification fight at Wmebley Stadium... well i can dream anyway
As daft as it is, if Khan did a decent number on Ortiz he could retire the bloke given his fragile emotional state as displayed after the Maidana scrap
I agree, I don't think Ortiz really has the heart for it. It wasn't as if he was being dominated or outclassed, he had decked the guy three times, he was there to be taken and he just didn't fancy the job.... granted he was put down twice himself, but still - it just didn't seem quite right. Maidana showed plenty of stones to hang in there though.
