Apart from maybe Bradley, where i'd go 5-0/50, Marquez would school the other two, and it wouldnt even be funny. He's a much bigger namem, and would look a hell of a lot better on his record, as well as putting bums on seats. And as far as his character, since when did a teenager driving a fast flashy sports car, trying to beat the lights while their on amber, while slightly over the speed limit and knocking over a drunkard jay walking, equate to something out of the ordinary? He's not the only teen with a driving offence on his record. I think all the charity work he does, including numerous benefits for the police and fire departments, as well as spending £700,000 of his own money, on a gym for use by the local community and local colleges and higer education institues, counts a little more.
He did fight the likes of Earl, Lawton, Gomez and Limond, so its not like he totally avoided the local scene. You can make a point for Thaxton, but he was demanding 50/50, which was never gonna cut it with Warren, and as far as Joh Murray goes, he just recently fought Lawton, which shows the gulf in class between the two.
I personally think all you guys slaggin off Amir khan saying that he has a glass chin and has yet to face anyone decent should get lost. He beat Barrera when everyone said he wouldnt. He beat kotelnik, a world champ when everyone said he wouldnt, then he beats a dangerous opponent in salita when lots of people said he wouldnt. What more has a young guy with lots of potential got to do to turn some f...king respect!!
I don't get on his case for not fighting Murray, after all, nearly every decent win he's had (bar the bull**** stoppage of a shot Thaxton) has come off the back of the opponent being thrashed more impressively by Khan himself. He certainly ducked Thaxton though, who would (I'm 100% certain) have beaten him at the time the fight was mooted, so perhaps not a bad move, but Jon was a great servant to the sport and deserved his payday, having been unlucky in fights with Ricky Hatton and Eamon Magee.
That means they're probably gonna go for 70/30 split, since its in Paulies hometown, and he's the bigger ticket seller, which i cant see Goldenboy allowing, especially since Khan has the title. Leaving Khan without an opponent lol Maybe we'll see him in with Maidana quicker than expected lol
I dont know, i just think it was a case of Thaxton asking for too much, i read a few interviews of him where at one point he was saying he'd fight for free, cos his sponsors would pay him, however then he changed his tune, and wanted parity or more, since he had the title. If they fought, it def would have been interesting. Thaxton did have a little pop, but around the time they were gonna fight, Thaxton was definitely descending fast, having a bad loss against Romanov.
I'm guessing u mean the "jab" Prescott threw, the one he put his all into, and shot it in from the side? thats called a hook, and it landed flush! :good
I think the Thaxton fight was first talked about around three years ago. Hatton said in his book (2008 edition) that Thaxton was a real banger, he knocked out the highly touted Paul Ryan with a single punch, basically ending his career, as a late replacement coming in on less than a week's notice. I'd have had Thaxton putting Khan away inside three rounds. If a shot Gomez could drop and hurt Khan, imagine what an awkward, two handed puncher like Jon could do? Kevin Mitchell said that Prescott wasn't that big a puncher..... interesting.
Well Kevin Mitchell to all intents and purposes didnt go with his chin out to trade fire with him did he, like "King" Khan and i dont really remember PRescott landing anything significant on him till the 12th round, and its well known that Prescott badly fades down the stretch. Mitchell boxed a brilliant fight tho,I really didnt think he had it in him, i'd never rated him, especially after his fight against Johanneson, where i thought anybody with a little more skill would ko him, but he proved me wrong big time. And well as far as Thaxton, i guess its one of those things, Its a shame they didnt meet, a good contender, a genuine nice guy like thaxton did deserve the big pay day and opportunity. I remember seeing him analysing Khan on ITV4, and he seemd fair and balanced in his opinion.
If Carl had trained properly rather than being out in Leeds drinking all the time he'd have beaten Mitchell. Shame :-(
I'd not seen Carl fight before, but was massively impressed by him, didnt know about him not training properly, i jsut thoght he's another british fighter who jsut doesnt have the x-factor to get over the finish line, cos Mitchell was ready to go from the 6th round onwards.
I will tell you this Paulie has a much better chance of KOing Khan than Khan does Paulie. Khan could not even take Limond's punches. He was KOed in that fight but the crooked referee let him go on. Khan is the most protected and coddled fighter in the World today. He is a total disgrace to the sport of Boxing.
