Will Arum now make Gamboa-Lopez, only looking out for the Cuban's interest?

JuanMa lost for the 2nd time, but in an absolute WAR and better believe that Arum, who always kept Gamboa warm and ready to add his name to a cash cow's resume, will now consider reversing roles, and throw the Puerto Rican in with the Cuban, hoping the undefeated fighter emerges victorious... and a star. Funny how the tide turns in boxing, Gamboa, not willing to be low-balled for a fight two divisions higher with no contract or details cleared, may get the big fight he (and we) wanted after all, only him being favored by the Bobfather... Whatever happens I certainly hope that Gamboa won't be sidelined and will be treated properly at the negotiating table, which wasn't the case in the past few weeks. Below the original post a made a few days back.

Gamboa is a borderline P4P-er and the best FW in the world, so you better believe when Top Rank/Arena didn't even bother to send a contract with a shitty deal for a fight two division higher and a rumored contract extension demand, he did the right thing not to show up at a presser for a fight he didn't sign for. Sickening **** you have to read from our fans who instead of standing behind a fighter who's being taken for a fool by the most crooked pair in boxing, Bob Arum and Ahmet Öner, they somehow come to the conclusion Gamboa is "ducking" a fighter two divisions higher. :blood

It's pretty obvious that Arum wants to cash out on the Cuban, but he doesn't want to show the cash, on the other hand Gamboa-Lopez is PPV worthy with enough money generated to pay the fighters properly and keep Bob's and Öner's pocket full, after all we wanted that fight for years, so did Top Rank and Arena. All is left is Lopez getting revenge, which he will based on Salido's last fight, and Arum's willingness to put up a fight properly, asking BOTH sides to the negotiating table and work out a contract to sign, and we have a fight.

    It's that simple.

Gamboa-Lopez is not PPV worthy. It would be a huge flop if they tried to bill it as one.

Disagree. Projecting just 100k, which is doable, should be enough for Arum to put it together. Off PPV and he's not gonna show up with the money, since he's not doing it for this Rios fight.

Gamboa vs Lopez PPV worthiness (if there's any) lost its luster when Lopez lost to Salido... Also I think Gamboa has a small fanbase and he's not yet PPV worthy.

Neither are American, Lopez's fanbase isn't as strong as it could be (for a Puerto Rican), Gamboa hardly even has one outside of the small number of hardcore Cuban fans, and the demand/excitement for this fight dropped considerably after Lopez lost. Him beating Salido this weekend, won't drive it back to the level it once was, either. There was a reason why Arum was delaying the fight and focusing more on building each of them up. None of them were of superstar status. Their clash was a work in progress. If it wasn't PPV worthy back then, it's hardly going to be now.

Gamboa-Lopez WAS a PPV worthy fight a while back, not anymore.

If you're a boxing fan you wouldn't be recommending this as a PPV fight, this is a HBO reg fight.

I do agree that Gamboa-Lopez lost a LOT of luster, but for one some of that can be regained tomorrow, plus the Puerto Rican community is pretty strong despite losses and the Latino market would appreciate the fight as well.

I mean can you imagine all the excitement around here if the superfight was announced?

Arum wasn't delaying because he wanted to "build it up." He never had any real interest in building up Gamboa except as a beatable opponent for guys who were bigger potential draws like Rios. The reason the fight was constantly delayed was because he did not want the guy with no obvious fanbase (who for that reason along with promotional indifference, will never be a superstar) beating the guy who's already a decent size draw. The same logic applies to the Donaire-Rigondeaux situation.

Agreed except for the reasoning for superstar status. Gamboa's age is a bigger factor than being Cuban, yes, Filipinos stand behind Pacquiao, but PacMan became an international star by his own right, first winning over the Spanish speaking community, then the rest, Filipinos bring just a small portion of the income. Gamboa may never sell out an arena in one day, but can be an excellent TV and a good live gate draw if he wins the right fights, but for that Arum needs to properly make them, and low-balling the Cuban to jump up 2 divisions is not the way - Gamboa-Lopez is. In order to take $$$ out of him, Arum needs to invest $$$ first, that's how the unknown Romanian became a superstar in Canada - Bute's promoter did his f*cking job.
