Kovalev is no Shumenov, neither is Stevenson, but Stevenson ran to Showtime to avoid fighting Kovalev which HBO had been planning and was promoting. According to HBO they had an agreement with Stevenson to fight Kovalev, but Stevenson decided to take the easier fight. Dawson beat Hopkins, so did Taylor, Jones, Calzaghe............

I think you are going to be really upset once BHOP schools Stevenson and takes his title.

before Shumenov - Hopkins, weren't you one of the bunch who said the Shumenov was going to knock Hopkins out?

Guy has a lot of other things going on besides boxing.

    Businesses, other martial arts.

He fights as often as he wants to and is comfortable doing.

I find it funny people blast him for his personal choice to fight fairly infrequently. The **** does it matter?:-(

I doubt it very much - if we see him again it'll most likely be to showcase an emeging talent by fighting a 'former champ'.

It was no secret at all that GBP only signed Beibut to get Hopkins his belt (and presumably to stop him running off with Bernards if the unthinkable happened and he won).

The guys 30 years old, and just isn't that good - it's a bit late to expect significant improvement at this age, but if he were willing to use a professional coach and fight both more often and better quality opposition, undoubtedly he'd get at least somewhat better.

That said, there's stll plenty of guys he could beat at LHW and if he chooses to rebuild I think it's not unreasonable to consider him in the top 10-15 of the division.

Shumenov is already a good player in the division. He has some solid wins and has proven his courage and desire to become the man. He was somehow overrated going against Bernard and then is being underrated ever since. It's all about Bernard. Beibut gat to get his distance from that past issue and get a couple of kayo wins against top rated light heavies and rebuild his ego.

I think he was very upset about losing the match and his title.
Perhaps he was so upset thathe will go and beg Nazeem to train him so he can regain what he lost.
He has a good mixed bag of a foundation so maybe even at 30 he can be trained and improve.

First thing he shall do is stop voicing his blows. Every time my countryman hits he does it with a scream and thus an opponent times him quite easily. Maybe he should scream and NOT hit, lol?
Second thing - put his fcuking left arm high to protect the chin. It was so evident it made me angry at him.

No...only those who hadn't followed his career (such as it is) could possibly have overated him. He's not terrible, possibly top 10 - 15 in a fairly shallow (though hopefully improving division - there's some promising new guys moving up) but anyone who actually knew what he was like knew he had no realistic chance against Hopkins.

I, don't want to slaughter the guy, cos he ain't terrible, but which are his 'solid' wins? - Some felt he won Campillo I, certainly it was close, and Uzelkov wasn't a bad win but really, what else has he done?

He didn't win a world title. He was gifted a world title.

The Campillo-Shumenov fight was one of the biggest robberies in recent times. Campillo won that fight 9-3 and I'm being generous to Shumenov. that fight could easily be 10-2.
