Calling out Eubank now. Saunders saying : 'It doesn't get much bigger than this.' Looking at him recently, I think he means 'I can't get much bigger than this.'
Billy Joe is not my lover He’s just a guy who thought he was number 1. But Canelo proved he’s done. don’t think twice, don’t think twice..,.
Had to see how he's be able to get back in shape for title contention type fights. After the Canelo pay day and putting on so much weight since and time out of the ring, only a world title fight would surely tempt him back in the ring, which seems near impossible with all the time off now.
Not a draw in his prime, neither exciting nor a puncher, never a consummate 'pro, plus he's massively unlikable, who wants to see him fight?
A bit harsh. He was quite a big name a few years ago. He had quite an exciting style, also. I enjoyed Bill's interviews.
I agree. Billy Joe Saunders has behaved badly to a lot of people and I don't believe any promoters want to work with him.
Why? He was always spoken about. He was a master boxer and had charisma - look what he did with Lemieux. He was outspoken and funny in interviews. His dad Tom "Ace Ventura" Saunders was brilliant in the week before the Saul Alvarez fight. He was no saint but he was anything but boxing. He was a two weight belt holder, also. Not bad.
Nonsense. He’s one of the least likeable guys in boxing, sure. But one of the most unlikeable is outrageous hyperbole.
The only thing I enjoyed about his career was seeing Canelo beating the **** out of him, and him quitting in the corner, this after slating Daniel Dubois previously.
I mean, I literally can't think of any boxer whose personality I like less, so it doesn't seem like a stretch that others might feel the same way. Seems like a scumbag with a dubious moral compass.
Saunders reminds me a lot of Joey Barton during his time as a player. Both Saunders and Barton did awful things when they were younger, yet when interviewed, both were aware of what they'd done and spoke really well about them. In fact, I'd go as far as saying both spoke with self-awareness and honesty when speaking about their past. Yet both have pissed any goodwill they had away with continued moronic acts. It's fine to show self-awareness about your past, but meaningless if you continue to act the same way. I was genuinely gutted for Saunders after the Canelo fight. He was second best, but did some beautiful boxing in the early rounds against the best in the division, all in the most hostile atmosphere possible. I was really hoping we'd see a more humble man return to the ring, even if only at European / fringe world level - and I'd have been rooting for him against Eubank. After three years out, he surely only comes back for a cash-out, and only a handful of die-hard Saunders fans will back him. Potential sadly wasted. I hope he's invested his purses wisely.
