The sane boxing fans around here know how utterly silly this Pac-DLH fight is going to be.

I'm far from a DLH fan, I am however a passionate fan of boxing, and Oscar De La Hoya is one of the few remaining boxers today that draws interest to the sport from the mainstream media and public. I don't fantasize that boxing is 'dying' as it were, but certainly it is doing little more then treading in stagnant waters, at least in America.

I hate to admit it, but I think boxing will sorely miss the Golden Boy... fishnets and all.

What do the you think? If you think boxing will benefit without him (granted he is still hugely involved via GBP).. how so? (On a side note, do any conspiracy theorists out there fancy DLH taking a dive vs Pac? No matter what they say, both parties know its little more then a circus act, so why not put on a grand show?)

Boxing will not miss Oscar because the Oscar that was always willing to challenge himself and fight the best is now gone. I respect his career but lost respect for him over the last year and a half as a person and especially as a fighter since he's become more of a businessman than fighter. At this point, Oscar retiring is what boxing needs IMO because he know longer delivers excitement INSIDE the ring. The only thing he brings to the table is hype and living off the Golden Boy Brand. What has been really hurting boxing are these big PPV events that don't come near to living up to the hype and those are the fights that Oscar and his promotional company have been giving to the public. These fights only turn casual fans further away from the sport and closer to other fighting venues like the UFC....and say what you want, at least in MMA the best fight the best.

No, Oscar needs to bow out of the sport as a both a fighter and a promoter....especially if GBP's formula for PPV fights will continue to be matching up their big name, past their prime fighters against younger but smaller champions at cathweights. Good Riddance Oscar! I thought you would clean up the sport with you're promotional company, but you've turned out to be worse than King, Arum, DiBella and the rest of the sharks....HHMMM, well maybe not DiBella, he's pretty much the biggest piece of **** in the game.

Of course boxing will miss him. To compare him to King, Arum, or any of those other snakes is ridiculous. GBP is great for boxing as Oscar has done all he can to make sure his fighters get good fights and are taking care of. There is a good chance these fighters would get literally cheated out of money like King has done numerous times. He is also partners with two HOF bound fighters in Hopkins and Mosley and I don't consider those two sleazy promoter types either. Boxing will lose a crossover superstar and there is no one in boxing now in any division who seems to be ready to take his place. The pacquaio fight may be a farce but you once had a 174 billy conn fight a 190+ Joe Louis and almost beat him! A 5'8 career lightweight sugar shane jumped a division to BEAT Oscar in his prime. This doesn't make the fight right, but people should stop acting like it's unprecedented and just ignore a 16 year career because of one fight.

DLH is going out the wrong way but yes he will be missed by boxing.

NO more huge megafights for a while.

For a lot of boxers in his weight range his retirement will put an end to
dreams of ever hitting the DeLaLotto!
