He is already not very different to Ottke. Ottke generally took on the better fighters and most of calzaghe's better opponents, Ottke beat first ewhen they had a higher star. However, the mere fact that Calzaghe is fighting Kessler can set Calzaghe apart from Ottke. If Calzaghe wins fair and square he is clearly far above Ottke. If Calzaghe loses to Kessler he will rate above Ottke for the sheer reason that he; 1. Took on a better fighter than anyone Ottke met. 2. Actually lost, when he actually did.
This thread doesn't make any sense as if Calzaghe 'dropped to Ottke level' he wouldn't lose any decision even if he deserved to!!
Ottke was a damn boring fighter to look at, but he didn´t do more han he needed to in palce to win......most times. I think Calzaghe would have beat Ottke then, and I think Joe will beat Kessler as well.
I am not sure I understand the question. Ottke remained undefeated, even if a fair share were gift decisions. When Kessler beats JC, the welshman will have less defences, and more losses. I don't understand why Calzaghe and Ottke never met, both met good boxers from time to time. Palle was able to land 2 fights with Ottke. Then again, Calzaghe never faced Mads Larsen either. He was easy top 5, even if he was injured alot, and seemingly had his head screwed on wrong. Kessler-Calzaghe would probably never have happened, if Kessler hadn't called out JC on numberous occations. Lets not forget how hard it was to make this fight happening. Nonetheless, as Deram rightfully says: JC-Kessler is a fight that Ottke never landed, and therefore - the winner will be above Ottke - the loser have to prove it in another way. PS Ottke was a very underated boxer, because he had a boring style - a style that meant shutting down the other boxers offensive through smarts. Maybe both Kessler and JC would win against him, but they would not look great doing it. Thats my 2 cents at least.
I only saw Ottke box once, against Robin Reid. It was the most corrupt boxing match I have ever seen. Calzaghe would have destroyed him at a neutral venue (As would Reid) but to box that excuse for a boxer in Germany would require UN observers at the very least.
Yeah but where did the fights take place "Palle" landed, germany? U think Calz was gonna fight him in Germany, no way Calz wins a decesion against Germans boxing favourite son
yeah calzaghe wets his pants when he has to fight outside uk. Ottke will be way ahead of joe when joe loses to kessler. Maybe then Joe will regret not having fought ottke back then. Kessler will #1 ATG SMW and Ottke #2. The joe stock is gonaa collapse completely when he is easily taken apart by a fra better boxer in kessler
Are you that much of a moron? Really? Is it beyond your understading to realise that both Kessler and JC are better than Ottke? That both of them are the best opponents they have each faced. Kessler could possibly humiliate JC come November. Anything is possible. But the mere fact that you want to discredit JC is innocent.
:good. I also agree that Larsen-Ottke wasn't a total robbery. I was very disappointed in Larsen in that fight, but it just showed the effectiveness of Ottke's skills. I still think Larsen won, but I could live with the decision, since it was close.
Generally I don't agree with that attitude. Because msot top top fights are close. Just look at Hopkins, Taylor, Winky-Taylor etc. If you accept that the wrong man wins just because it is close then you better be prepared for a similar disappointment and rear-view-mirror "well it was close...so ok" in Calzaghe-Kessler. It will imo. be close... BUT hopefully the rightful winner will get the nod in the end.
When I said I could live with it, it doesn't mean that I agreed with the decision, because I didn't. However, in that particular fight, I was more disappointed at Mads Larsens performance, than anything else. I had really expected him to be at his best, but he wasn't. He looked better than Ottke, but not much, and I rated him as the superior boxer. There can only be one right type of winner, and thats the one that has deserved to win the fight - whether or not I root for the man. I have faced joys and disappointments in my 25 years of following boxing in various aspects. It's the way of sports. There is a good chance that the outcome of Kessler-Calzaghe will be a close call, where it can be argue for both, who should have won. I'd hate that this should happen - I hope for a competetive match, but where the winner is clear, but there is a good chance I will be "disappointed" there. If the latter happens, its very safe to say that we will see a rematch - and thats not so bad afterall.
Calzaghe is on Ottke level right now ? I'd list the fighters that Ottke actually lost to only to be screwed by the judges. The problem is i'd be here all ****ing day and i just don't have the time.
