Will Calzaghe get any credit if he beats or even stops Hopkins?

    "People" Who is people?

I for my part think that Joe deserves respect for all the accomplisment he has achieved within the last few years.I guess a lot of people think alike.
Joe doesnt need Hopkins to prove a point or something like that.

If Calzaghe beats Hopkins even by close points decision, he is the best european fighter of all times along with Marcel Cerdan and one of the best 10 fighters in the last 10 years along with Mayweather, Hopkins himself, MAB, Morales, Pacquaio, the Klitschkos brothers, Mosley, Hoya and Tito, no more no less. If he loses, he'll still be great but not just about to be fairly included at that plateau... Same thing goes for Pavlik, Cotto, Guzman, Haye and plenty of others...

It's a shame but it's a no-win situation for Calzaghe especially with the haters unless he absolutely dominates and stops Hopkins in a one-sided beatdown.

If he wins by UD by something like 8-4 then he beat an old man.

If he loses then he was overrated all the long.

He will get credit without a shadow of doubt, as most people still rate Hopkins a top p4per today (and those that don't, still have him as a top fighter, nonetheless. Maybe top 20-25).

But he doesn't get the same credit for beating a prime Hopkins, or even Hopkins of 3-4 years ago (when he WASN'T forty years old).

Some will surely deflate his win; but on the other hand, others will surely inflate it, too.

He's going up in weight to meet a guy ranked anove him in most P4P rankings.

    Only haters wonty respect that.

He should get a lot of credit, Hopkins is still a good fighter.
