Lewis will probably go down as the best brit. Ricky on here will probably be near the bottom of everybodys list on here because he his the man people love to hate. But Nobody not even bruno when fighting tyson for the first time took 15000 fans across the pond.
Tszyu was 36 compared to Eubank at 32....both past their best but Chris had more left in the tank i feel...see his fight vs carl thompson after. Lacy was supposed to take Calzaghes head off....
Eubank was not the same fighter after watson 2, the thompson fight the first one carl underestimated him and in the second he battered him.Don't forget eubank had lost back to back fights agianst collins whilst Kt had took out mitchell in three rounds.
I doubt it. 20 WBO defences does not equal greatest ever Brit. Ask yourself if beating Lacy and Kessler is enough to make him the best. It clearly isn't.
Eubank had two weeks to prepare for the Calzaghe fight and way past his best. Tszyu was the man at 140 and P4P top 3 or 5. Eubank wasn't fully prepared and definitely more shot. Lacy was hyped by yanks, that doesn't make him good. He's a **** fighter, simple as that.
I'd love to see the predictions the guys who call Tszyu 'shot' made for the Hatton - Tszyu fight, bet it'd make great reading. Easy to say he's shot now, bet they never gave Hatton a chance at the time.
I have always supported both Hatton and Calzaghe through their careers...but there can be no doubt who the superior fighter is. When Hatton beat Tzsyu i was impressed and gave hatton a decent chance vs an aging champion.... a frustrating time for Calzaghe as he had failed to get a similar "super" fight. Alot has happened since that time and the current p4p rankings tell the story. You cant argue that Calzaghe dominates his opponents where as Hatton struggles.
Calzaghe is infinitely more talented than Hatton, but Calzaghe's resume isn't anything to write home about and when comparing the two resumes, it's quite close...
Most would agree Calzaghe was avoided for a long period of time. Warren may need to take some of the blame for not promoting him better to the american market. But when the likes of Beyer, Ottke, Lucas werent interested..what can u do.. I dont think we'll ever know how shot Tszyu was that night..cuz he never fought again...even p4p fighters can grow old overnight at that age. Calzaghe called out Hopkins and Jones for years...he wasnt simply hiding I could understand u comparing the WBU with the IBO....but comon the WBO is a recognised world title. But i guess you could argue all the titles are garbage even the 4 main ones..
We are happy that the best fighter on this Island is a welshman...Problem is with the english is that if a Scot or Welshman succeeds he suddenly becomes British but If he fails hes the welsh or scotsman again...........No offence but you can keep that union Jack....:-(
Have other British fighters beat better opponents then Lacy or Kessler? Answer - Yes, many. What are Calzaghes career highs and defining fights - Answer wins against Lacy and Kessler. Joe doesn't deserve the up-most recognition IMO, because he never took the risks. He simply never fought the best. Because of that we can only guess how good he could have been and not properly guage how good he actually was. I'd give him a lower top ten place. I have more respect for a fighter who faces the best and loses then one who remains unbeaten fighting boxers of a lesser quality.
