Calzaghe has made his intentions clear that it's one more fight after Hopkins then he's done. Presuming he wins both of these his record will read - 46-0. With all the possible fights out there for him RJJ, Dawson, Woods, Pavlik etc. Will he be tempted to prolong his career. I have heard Enzo Calzaghe say before to diregard Joe's words when he talks of retirement as he believes Joe will only retire when he believes he can be beaten. Will he be rejuvenated at 175 and change his retirement plans? Will he want to experience more nights on the big stage in America? Will he be tempted to go for an amazing 50-0 record?
Depends on how he performs against Hopkins. If he feels brilliant after I can imagine a matchup against Woods at the end of the year and then a catchweight against Pavlik in the sping of 2009. I'd rather he fought Dawson however. If he's unimpressive on the 19th I'll imagine he'll retire. Or maybe, if he wants to end his career on a victory, a fight against Woods.
It's not uncommon for fighters to talk about retirement immediately before a superfight. I remember that JCC was talking retirement before the Camacho fight. The big fight pressure gets to the best of them.
you mean the calzaghe bike.his girlfriend hits harder than calzaghe hopkins will beat him into retierment
He might have two more. I think Joe just wants to make some money and be done though to be honest. I think the punishment of working as hard as he has to work to win a fight is taking a toll on him.
Well. Joe's not getting any younger. I think he should fight 2 more times at most. RJJ and retire or RJJ and Pavlik. If he defeats RJJ (old legend) and Pavlik (young lion gunning to be a legend), historians will be in deep trouble ranking him among the best. It's very hard to rank an undefeated guy even if Hopkins showed his limits.
