Will Canelo skip next morning weigh-in like Jacobs?

Obviously the IBF belt will be on the line in September, but you'd think Canelo will try to squeeze out every advantage he can against Golovkin.

Do you think he will show for the IBF weight-check?

He will not participate for that... in the past 5 fights, Canelo has not done next day weigh Ins... and he hates the wbc so maybe only the wba and ibo title will be on the line...

Canelo will be in the best shape of his life for this fight but he will definitely skip the next morning weigh-in. The extra weight will not be enough for him to win it, though. But he will be more resilient than he would have been otherwise. Canelo has been a bonafide MW (at least) for the last couple years.

Yeah, I'm thinking the extra weight will help his punch resistance.

What does he rehydrate to anyway?

McNelo has never even done fight night weights... He's a scale cheat.

Here is a better question, will GOLOVKIN skip the next day weigh-in? :)

He has to see his opponent taking an advantage. More power to him if he doesn't.

I remember reading an interview with Loeffler about the very same issue. There seems to be something in place in case Canelo skip the second day weigh in, either Canelo will be penalize or GGG won't have to do it either. I guess it remains to be seen.

Only one of the four belts (IBO i believe, but it could maybe be IBF?) requires a morning weigh in. Thats the trinket belt anyways (to make the euro's feel like champions). Nothing can be done to "make" Canelo weigh in. He simply will skip the next day weigh in and that belt won't be contested.

Carnelo can skip and it is still not going to save him from GGG. Packing on as much weight as he can overnight will be a mistake for Canelo IMO, but hey the bottom line is IDKSAB:bananaride
I just think the extra weight works against him and negates the improvements he has made with his footwork :tiburon:

no belts on the line. how bout that. who gives a crap. this fight just needs to be done. let ggg keep his belt dont defend. canelo doesnt care about the belt and canelo lets that be known.

    exactly

it seems even now it's too late because this is a contractual issue

the reason i say this is that GGG is an IBF titleholder and therefore the IBF same-day weigh-in rules will be in effect, by default which means that GGG has to comply otherwise risk having the IBF take his strap

this gives any opponent up-to-the-last-minute discretion whether to skip the IBF same-day weigh-in (though of course if they do then they are no longer an IBF-recognized challenger for the title)

so what does the fight contract say?

well i'm pretty sure i had read in a press release announcing the fight that the fight contract has no re-hydration clause

this usually means that there is no contractual re-hydration limit imposed after the official weigh-in

but GGG, as an IBF title-holder, is bound by the fight contract and the IBF regulations

if true, then it looks like the answer to your question is

GGG will be (the only fighter) required to do the same-day weigh-in

because the no-rehydration clause excuses Canelo (provided he's willing to forfeit the chance to win GGG's IBF MW strap)

of course it also exempts GGG, but GGG also has to comply with IBF regs which do have a re-hydration limit imposed by the same-day weigh-in

so this is the sort of thing that justifies having a single, top-level world boxing organization (HBO is about the only one with the money and possibly the interest who could step up) to ensure fights take place on a level playing field, otherwise there's no sport. The GGG vs Jacobs fight is the obvious recent example--Jacobs looked huge on my PPV monitor; the commentators at ring-side all agreed he looked huge

i'm sure Oscar, if asked, or perhaps on his own will proudly advertise the "no re-hydration clause" which at a distance seems ok--ie, it treats both fighters equally and it's doesn't overly constrain them with administrative BS--ie, they have an official weigh-in then just let them do as they wish so they are as healthy as possible on fight day

again, this clause is far from even-handed, because of the title-holder's additional mandatory IBF-imposed requirements

No fighter should ever have their weight checked AFTER the weigh in, ever! That is one of the worst rules in boxing that was ever created. **** the IBF for even doing such a thing lol...

If I was Canelo I wouldn't take part in the next morning weigh in. The guy is so over with his fans he could get away with murder no one would care

Disagree here with the modern training methods and nutrition science it becomes easier to cut or gain weight.
If natural crusierweights are able to make the mw limit at the weight in it will hurt the sport

You went from CW to MW, lmao. There should be no weigh in AFTER the weigh in.
