Will Canelo's choices of opponents start hurting his ability to draw PPV buys?

Has this already started to happen or do casual fans not care about who he fights?

Will see with Berlanga because I'm pretty sure Munguia sold a lot, especially in Mexico

Aren't his fights shown for free in Mexico?

Most likely but he doesn't care, his minimum guarantees are so high that ppv upside is just icing on the cake. The Berlanga fight will absolutely tank but promoters will continue to line up mediocre opposition for him to feast on.

Cinco De Mayo and Mexican independence day are fairly solid pay days for him. As long as the promoters do their job marketing him properly and he continues to entertain in the ring.

Btw his opponents haven't been terrible, I just think he's not interested in taking big risks any more

Back when media companies were begging for high budget content, every contender was begging for a payday after having been forced to take a year off, and the stimulus money was still sloshing around he was there to collect.

Now that things have settled down and he's a few years older he is throttling down.

Probably not much, most casual fans like seeing him win, and he has a fan friendly style even in fights he’s winning clearly.

The guys we want to see him fight, most casual fans don’t even know about..

PPV numbers have been going down for the last decade and a bit anyways iirc. Canelo is still the biggest draw in the sport and even his bad PPVs do pretty well by the standards of anyone else in the sport. Most of the B-sides at 168 aren't really big draws even if they're respectable title challengers. Neither Morrell or Mbilli have big followings and Jermell probably brought more buys than both of those guys would combined. Benavidez and Crawford are the biggest B-sides around the weight and even then neither of them are PPV stars in their own right. At the end of the day, the people who want to see him fight will pay to see him fight, he's still an exciting fighter with a huge following.

Already has. Boxing has moved on now and if he doesn't get in that Saudi Bus he's getting left behind

I'm sure it already has but his guarantee is so huge I doubt he really cares that much. Does he ever even try and promote his fights? He has the charisma of a soggy sandwich.

'PPV' is an extremely outdated business model at this point. It is a mid 1980's way of doing things. The numbers will continue to go down no matter who the opponent is. I don't blame Canelo for that.

He hasn't received any money from me since Bivol spanked him and before that GGG II. His lifestyle has been severely diminished through my efforts.

His career is coming to an end anyways, so he likely doesn´t care all that much. He said he will retired at 37, so 5 fights to go? Maybe a few more.

Canelo has a strong foothold in the American market, and as long as he keeps winning, he will keep making 10s of millions per fight.

I don't care either way tbh. He'll do what he does regardless of what I think.
