Will Clottey fair better than Pac’s recent victims?

Over on the scene where boxing is, Clottey reminds us of the reasons why the others (Hatton and Cotto especially) lost so badly to Pacquiao. He states the following:

“To me, from the way I analyze it, I think the pther guys lost to Pacquiao because they don’t respect his power. That’s why he’s surprising them (.....) Cotto is stronger than Pacquiao. It is true. But Cotto didn’t respect Pacquiao. He thought Pacquiao is too small to hurt him. I’m not thinking that at all. See me in the ring. I will give him a lot of respect. With that, he’s not going to surprise me with any punch.”

It’s no bolt from the blue then that Clottey will adopt a defence first strategy on March 13th, and at the same time of course that’s not to say he won’t launch attacks of his own. But due to the different styles, do you guys think Pacquiao will have a harder time dealing with Clottey than he did with Cotto?

I can't see how he is going to stop Clottey. The man walks into the ring at 160+, Pacquiao has never weighed that much in his entire life. Cotto is not a massive WW and we don't know how shot he may have been after he was beaten up by Margacheato and struggled with Clottey (which I thought Clottey won btw). I think Pac wins a fairly wide UD, Clottey I don't think does enough to beat Pac.

I think Clottey will fare alot better than Pac's last 4 opponents. Could even pull off the upset if he can really hurt Pacquiao early.

I think whatever tools Clottey has to defeat Pacquiao are negated by his inability to box to the correct plan. He will defend well against Pac but thats just about all he will do. Dont get me wrong, he's got all the physical traits one would need to do extremely well in boxing, but I think hes significantly lacking in boxing intelligence. He'll take pac the distance, but he'll be little more than a punchbag.

Yes, he'll fare a lot better.

First off, he's a defensive minded fighter. He doesn't just lunge in like Hatton or Cotto. And second, he's got a granite chin. Third, he's huge. Fourth, he's a good counter puncher. Fifth, he's got respectable hand speed, especially when he throws combinations.

You look at Clottey's history against elite WWs and he's always held his own.

Clottey is a sitting duck for Pac, he doesn't have the defensive prowess to beat him that way and his workrate is far too low to cause Pac any problems....not too mention he doesn't have a one punch KO power. KO for Pac

clottey is going to have to let his hands go on the inside! he is too flat footed to box from the outside! i think he will catch pac! remember people pac has been beat!

It's very important also to note that Pac had very little time to recover from his last fight and camp.

I think that Clottey's defense and physicality will give him a decent chance to pull off an upset but I still have Pacquiao winning by a UD. Of course I thought that Cotto's power would trouble Pacquiao but I was wrong...

The only fighters that will give Manny problems, are guys with speed. As big and strong Clottey is, he just isn't mobile enough to take the fight to Pacman.
I reckon he'll be a sitting duck, and lose the fight due to the volume of punches
he's gonna get caught with, it will be like target practice. Even with a guy, with a shell like defense...

He'll do certain things better but I'm thinking overall he still loses a wide UD. He'll certainly do much better than Hatton.
