Cotto-Margarito I brought in a lot of excitement for the sport before, during , and after the fight. We all knew it was going to be a FOTY candidate and an explosive fight for as long as it lasted. This fight still seems to be bringing in hundreds of threads almost a week later. These are the fights that boxing needs. Will the rematch happen, and if it does what will be the outcome?

One thing is for sure, a good performance or two from Cotto, and his fans will be screaming for Margarito's head.

Will Team Cotto be interested in an immediate rematch? IMO they would have already said so by now if that's what they wanted. In other words, no. At least for now. Maybe forever.

I think the rematch will happen. I think it could possibly happen late next year or maybe even in the summer, but I think late next year sounds a lot more accurate. As for the outcome of the fight, I think Cotto will make the adjustments need to win the fight and I think he takes a close but clear decision. I'm not saying this is how it will go, just my take on it.

IF margarito stays top dog in the division, and Cotto doesn't go downhill and racks up a few decent wins, I say we'll see it again. But something tells me margarito is not going to be at the top of the heap for very long. He can be outboxed and UD'ed quite easily if someone has the stamina to fight on the backfoot all night.

If Marg isn't holding a title belt, he will once again be looked at as low reward/high risk, and cotto nor many other contenders will want to face him.

    Yes it will happen.
The outcome..well if it happened immediately I would pick Margo, if Cotto can get a dominating win or two against a credible WW, look good doing it and gain some confidence back I might favor Cotto in a rematch.

Still Cotto needs a much better approach or gameplan if he expects to beat him even then

I don't see someone with as much pride and heart as Cotto just letting Margarito get away with a victory of that magnitude without a chance to redeem himself. Yes Margarito may be too much risk not enough reward for the average fighter from today but for cotto i think its the opposite.

This will be bad for Cotto cause i see him getting a wrost beating and for sure now that he will NEVER be the same but it will be a very good fight while it last.

Cotto performed well enough to warrant a rematch, plus it was a damn good fight, so there no reason why a rematch shouldn't go down. The only thing is if Margarito can stay consistent and win his fights. The biggest threat here is Paul Williams and maybe Clottey if he wins against Judah.

I think the way the fight ended would suggest to me that Miguel Cotto isn't going to be the same fighter. I could be wrong, we've seen great fighters make comebacks after devastating defeats; Joe Louis did it many times, as did Marco Antonio Barrera. However, it's rare to see a guy look like he was run over by a truck, and having his corner throw in the towel, for them to come out on the otherside without any wear and tear. His next fight will be intriguing.

an immidiate rematch could end cotto's career.. two losses in a row is never good. ask JT.. I say take a few tune ups and then if margarito is still champion.. go after him.. !

It will happen in 2009. Cotto needs to make some adjustments and he'll win the rematch. I picked Margo to win the first fight and yes i'm picking Cotto in the rematch...:smoke

No, Cotto's will and heart was broken. He can't beat Margarito back after that.
