I think Cotto will come back significantly better.

He was getting cocky, (very obvious in the Gomez fight) and the way HBO was pampering him was turning him a little bit soft. I feel that having to fight his way back to the top with the experience of a bitter defeat will make him that much more focused when he regains the championship.

When he fights Margarito again he won't be the reckless Top Dogg that he thought he was previous to July 26th.

He'll be a man clawing for redemption.

I agree. though beating Margo will be tough for him no matter what he does.

If he weren't retired then it still wouldn't be much of a factor since he's made it clear he would not fight very many more times. Maybe just one or two more.

Whats worse, is that even after the biggest win of his career.. Margarito still isn't the kind of draw that Floyd needs to make a big fight. For Cotto, a win would have made him more or less the consensus mandatory opponent for Floyd. Floyd would have HAD to fight him if he wanted to keep fighting at all. With Margarito winning... well Margarito still has the loss to Williams hanging over his head, and since Williams is coming off a win... it leaves lots of options.

Though personally I'm sure Floyd would win so it doesn't really matter in my opinion.

With this last fight Cotto was basically HOSTING the fight, He was defending his title, if you look back he got the most air-time on the countdown, and everyone was picking him to dominate Margarito.

While it was flattering to him, I don't think that's a role he's used to playing and in the end he got caught up in it and lost his focus on fighting.

....I don't know maybe not, but I'd like to think that though he has a loss, he's been in the ring with Margarito, he knows the adjustments he needs to make, he knows that margarito was frustrated for a moment in the fight, and all this should give him the confidence to pursue redemption.

Thats a pretty stupid thing to say m8. Any fighter can lose no matter how great they are. There is always someone out there with your ticket. Margarito just had Cottos.

It will depend on the quality of his next opponent. I say he take it easy first and get a top 10 - 20 opponent before taking on the bigboys of the welter weight. It will bring him back his confidence and it will allow him to validate how much damage margo has done to his psyche and his physic.
