I can't even believe tito had a 6 pack after he came out looking like a butterball against RJJ. He was so out of shape it was ridiculous.
I wouldnt take it as far as saying his body looked pretty good but I am pretty sure he was in shape. :yep
Torres was WBO #1 contender at the time. Quintana would have been given the WBA title had Cotto not fought him for it. He didnt cherry pick anything. These guys proved themselves. Same as Cotto. They werent the only fighters that were green. Cotto was in the same situation.
Malignaggi and Torres aren't big wins becasue they're still unknown nationally. And it was their first time around in title fights ... they have improved since the loss to Cotto but not quality fighters as of yet. Those guys biggest name on their resumes is Cotto and until that changes I can't count them. Judah is 0-3-0 1NC in his last 4 ... he hasn't beat anyone significant since Spinks and is officially a gate keeper. Shane Mosley didn't beat anyone of signifance either ... To me those names aren't credible if you know their past but if you just check on boxrec.com then you would probably say that they're good wins. There's no lineage in Cotto's title and there's no lineage in his past opponents (Torres and Malignaggi) titles.
Nobody is saying that he is THE champion yet. But from his body of work, he is the #1 contender for Mayweather. Dont you agree?
didn't Torres take the fight with short notice? Who was on Q's resume prior to Cotto? Cotto was a little green but, he was a titlist at 140 when he fought torres and had vacated to fight Qat 147, so he already had championship experience unlike his opponents. True? *notice you didn't say anything about mali, do you agree with my statement about him?:yep
Cotto took the fight on short notice as well. Torres was in fighting shape and I even predicted he was going to give Cotto trouble in the early rounds. Many people (especially from the Isla de Puerto Rico) gave Quintana a great chance at beating Cotto. I thought Cotto was going to KO Malignaggi inside 4 rounds. I was impressed with his toughness. :yep
:think Cotto can surely equal his Island brother in accomplishments if he continues on the right path...it will be difficult to equal the amount of title defenses but I'm sure he can equal in quality of opposition. While some feel Cotto's competition is average one can point out the success of fighters he basically "beat up" also think about the different stlyes Cotto has faced it shows true versitility. Wins against PBF, winner of Margo vs Cintron taking Q's belt away possibly 4 or 5 solid defenses against the likes of say Berto and a trip up to JMW and capturing a title would possibly catapult Cotto to ATG status.
Cotto didn't take that fight on short notice ... Torres did but not Cotto. One of his opponents pulled out last minute and they got torres in 1 or 2 weeks notice. Torres took it because he just fought a month before and was in decent shape. The fight with Malignaggi showed me that Cotto wasn't as good as I thought he was. You got a guy who has 5KO's on his resume ... I wouldve walked through whatever he was throwing and threw everything including the kitchen sink to knock that guy out. He couldn't hurt Cotto -- what was the hold up? Its apparent that he has no power and watching Malignaggi fight he doesn't have any substance either. He tries to imitate PBF and does a terrible job at it. Cotto shouldve knocked him early !!
so what you are saying is that Mali couldn't knock out Cotto with brass knuckles? :rofl I wouldn't argue with you there. But I do give Mali credit for taking a stomping like a man. His face was literally broke. Still don't like him, but he can take a punch... or a bunch of them.
Sorry to point out the incorrect statement but Cotto was not prepared for Torres he was also a late sub who was preparing for a fight against someone who sports a tradintional stance(at the time Torres was fighting quite frequently and his team wanted this because Torres was a notorious lazy man when in between bouts) meaning Torres fought frequently. Cotto was training for a southpaw so there is you unprepared/prepared theory.
