Will Cotto-Margarito be mentioned in the future as a classic?

I say yes. 2 big names. title on the line , back and forth action, the superstars first loss in devastating fashion. Margaritos story of being avoided for years by the top guys and then delivers a stoppage like that. One of the best title fights I've seen in the last 10 years

As great as the fight was, just like all fights that live on in memory will depend on what the two fighters do from here on out. If one of them goes on to true greatness, (HOF), then yes it will be remembered.

Don't get me wrong with my next statement, I'm not predicting anything, just saying what if- If Cotto pulls a Lacy or Hamed and is never the same and Margarito goes for revenge against Paul Williams and loses again, or gets Mayweather in the ring and loses then no the fight will not be remembered. One or the other needs to go on to a HOF career.

    Yes it will.

A give and take battle that was dead even going into the 11th when the brawler finally broke the boxer. And it was a real war.

    Yes!

In a big fight, best chin display of the decade, IMO. I realize Baldomir and Andrade also have shown superhuman beards, but that a PfP elite at his very best, and Margarito just kept coming.

Sure, the Mexican/Puerto Rican rivalry aspect ensures that.

No Doubt it's an instant "Mexico Vs. Puerto Rico" classic.

Of course it will, this was a two-sided fight with both showing signs that they're going to win soon and kept you slightly confused and curious after every single exchange till the very end.

    A great yet sad fight.

    Without doubt.

This fight had it all; toe to toe combat, changes in momentum, an undefeated fighter, titles on the line, and last minute drama. A+ fight.

I say yes. Has there ever been more of a fight of two halves? Cotto amazing early, Margo taking over when it mattered. Thrilling. Both guys gave us a fight that will live on in the memory. Salute.

    yeah i think so...

one of the best matches in my memory....

and it also has some meaning because the ww division is the best of the decade so if exciting things continue to happen in this division this fights lore will grow
