BJS has previously gone on record stating that he would avoid GGG at all costs. Money talks however, so would be interesting to see if he changes his mind should he outbox Lee. My money would be on the winner of Canelo v Cotto going on to face GGG before Lee/Saunders.
Cotto and BJS made it very clear that they don't want none of it but I think they'll reconsider they'll decisions if Golovkin becomes a ppv success.
it won't be the Canelo vs Cotto winner, but I believe the WBC one will be the next belt Golovkin unifies after the IBF belt. I think he will either be upgraded (from interim to full) without fighting, or upgraded fighting someone else in the WBC rankings, because the winner of that match won't and will be stripped.
Out of all the guys mentioned, I think the only one that would willingly get in the ring with Golovkin in the near future is Andy lee. He's just not a big draw, and a career high payday in the 7 figure range should be more than enough to secure that fight. I seriously doubt Cotto would ever fight him as that match could effectively end Miguel's career. Saunders has mentioned in passing he doesn't want to fight Golovkin as he's assured himself he'd lose that match. I think Canelo would take him on, but I don't think his handlers would put him in their with Gennady anytime soon. I could see GBP milking Alvarez for at least another 2 years before they entertain the idea of fighting what would be by than a 35-36 year old version of Gennady. And honestly, I don't blame them at all since Alvarez is their cash cow and Gennady could possibly ruin his career if he gave him a vicious beating.
Depends on who wins, if Cotto or Lee wins one of them is next, if Canelo wins he's allowed a voluntary defense which he likely takes. Saunders doesn't go anywhere near him. I'd take the MC-CA winner to beat GGG and Lee to make it competitive before getting stopped.
Yeah, most probably. As well I don't see Cotto or Canelo fighting GGG, only if HBO puts a ton of money on the table.
Andy Lee would probably fight Golovkin but also he could fight Eubank Jr in UK and make good money there.
I think GGGs next fight is a non PPV fight vs a mandatory, maybe Johnson, Heiland or Wade. If the PPV does over 500K, K2 will have HUGE leverage to renegotiate GGGs contract with regular HBO WCB, perhaps allowing him $5 mil for non PPV fights, guaranteeing even his mandatories a $1 mil payday in a non PPV fight. I think GGG will take one more step aside fee from the Canelo Cotto match, allowing them to rematch, assuming theres a blowout or a close fight. A clear decision either way kindof makes the rematch less necessary. One thing is certain, whoever contends/defends the WBC MW title will be forced to give up a cool $1 mil or 10% of their purse to not fight GGG, and Im sure he'd be ok with that if he's getting $4 mil from HBO to fight Tuareano Johnson or Dominic Wade.:yep
Eubank Jr will fight BJS should he be successful vs Lee, and he would undoubtedly be up for a GGG unification fight. Like Lemiuex, Jr has the pwoer to equalize GGGs, and while some think he's got stamina issues it's seemed to me that he gets stronger as the fight goes on. If Eubank Jr ends up with the WBO MW title this time next yr, GGG vs Eubank Jr would sell out Wembley and that fight would be huge on SKY PPV/HBO PPV. Both would make in excess of $10 mil and even in a loss, the loser could go to SMW and move on.
GGG said clearly that he wants all the belts @ mw. Plus the winner of Cotto-Canelo fight will have to fight GGG first or vacate. No voluntary defenses are allowed even if Canelo wins.
Lee beats Saunders and is the only one in the division who actually WANTS the Golovkin fight. What people will be surprised with is the belts will be unified but it will be Lee who unifies them after knocking out GGG.
