Will Craig mcewan become world champ?

I don't see it to be honest. I'd love him to prove me wrong - and I suppose with the way boxing is nowadays and him being with Golden Boy he may end up getting a shot at a vacant title with a weak contender or something - but I can't see him beating anybody like Martinez, Golovkin or N'Dam N'Jikam at the moment or even Sylvester, or any time in the future without serious improvements and refinement to his style.

I just don't see anything special about him, he looks to be - in world level terms - pretty average to me. He's not particularly quick at all in my opinion, I don't see a lot of variety to his offense, he's hittable. I don't like the way he's constantly bouncing on his toes, he's expending pointless energy and not setting himself to get his punches off properly.

He has a very amateurish style to me. Like I said, not a lot of variety to his offense, just a lot of straight two fisted punches down the barrell, I don't see him mixing it up with hooks, uppercuts, overhand shots or working the body. He just bounces around, looking to control the distance [which he doesn't do very well, imo] and let two-handed straight combinations go - and at times gets sloppy and doesn't turn his punches over - and then move again.

And he's getting on now and doesn't seem to be improving, and his opposition is regressing at the moment rather than improving.

Craig has maybe left it a bit late. Whether that's due to bad decisions, injuries or whatever he should have been fighting for a belt, any belt, by now.

He has the height and the ackward style to make it but I think his ship has sailed. He hasn't even fought a scheduled 12 rounder yet.

Both are dedicated and hard working, great trainers. Ricky obviously has natural ability, i think McEwan just needs a bit of polishing and to stay active.

Bottom line is Craig's careers is slowly disappearing due to inactivity. He either batters down De La Hoya's door and demands better opposition and regular fights or they come to a peaceful resolution that will see his contract cancelled, which is up next year I believe.

He's had a shot in America and he's gained experience that some guys would kill for. Maybe it's time to come back to the UK and at least start to fight regularly and against tougher opposition with each passing fight.
