Will David Price's demise ruin Hughie Fury's career?

Hear me out:

David Price was the up-and-coming fair-haired boy to all the Englishers before he got sparked out by Tony Thompson. Now that he's up and quit in the rematch and has no future as a real heavyweight contender, Brits will be looking for their next white hope.

Providing Tyson Funny gets exposed similarly by the semi-retired David Haye, that leaves Baby Huey as the remaining hope. He'll still be a teenager and there will be pressure to rush him to the top to fill the void.

His pedigree should be enough to push him up above the domestic level in fairly short order, then the microwave fans who want their next hope and want it NOW will put him in a precarious position -- he has to either try to step up too early to please their impatience or he and his backers can take their time and be ripped apart by the keyboard warriors for taking it too slow and fighting cans.

So what's a poor boy to do? He's already shown that he can't keep his trap shut ("I will break Mike Tyson's record and be the youngest heavyweight champion!!") and he's going to have to back it up. But, like Price, he likely won't be ready.

If Price had won the rematch, or if Tyson Funny beats Flopper Haye, it takes pressure off the Hughie Express ... but if there is no other heavy to accept the Brit Hype mantle, poor Baby Huey could be forced into the limelight while he's still a green lad.

I've already seen posters turning their attention to Huey as their savior. In what way am I off base here, seriously?

 

Many fighters have come back after a loss.

David Price doesn't have 'a' loss: he has two stoppage defeats, a knockout from a glancung blow to the neck and a gassed-out quit stoppage in the rematch.

If he someday puts the pieces together and makes a nice career of it, good for him. Same as if Tyson Funny loses to Haye. But that wouldn't take the pressure off Baby Huey to fill the void at the top, as no Brits are going to regard Price as their national heavyweight hope at this point and it will be the same for Fury if he is sparked out by Haye.

 

When did Wilder refuse to fight Thompson?

Golden Boy tried to make the fight but the Brit promoter had a rematch clause and wanted a hefty six figures to release Thompson from it. Thompson was contracted for a rematch and unless he was released from that he could not take any other fight.

 

Fury has already been exposed in being dropped by cruiserweights. If Haye does to him what many expect him to do -- bomb him out with windmill right hands and dominates him, then T. Fury won't be taken seriously going forward.

immediately the Brits will start pumping Baby Huey as a future champ, the hope of a generation -- it's already happening. I don't care if he's 14 or 18, he's already being hyped after beating opponents with more than 100 combined losses. If he beats a domestic fighter or two with decent records (a la Price), they'll erect monuments in his honour.
