No, just no. PBC/Haymon has too many fighters. Even if Fox and Showtime were to pull out of boxing, they would get a deal with another broadcaster or two.
I've read Showtime's was upward of $60 mill and FOX was upward of $60 mill too, so about $120 mill in total for the PBC deal compared to DAZN's $125 mill but as you say SHO not showing any signs of spending anywhere near this much. I'm beginning to wonder if it was just a PR stunt after the big deals by DAZN and ESPN to ensure PBC fighters don't jump ship.
money talks and DAZN have enough to knock anyone trying to match them. Thats all you need to know. They going for the NFL contract when its due for bidders and overpaying Miller vs AJ so you can see they throwing money at their sports platform.
The test is how long fighters aligned with Al Haymon hold out. There is no doubt that these fighters must be looking at the deals DAZN are handing out and wondering how they can get some of that money. For now nobody is making the jump but someone will.
Well the chances are now that the Charlo brothers will move to DAZN. Mainly because the middleweight Charlo has nobody to fight, they're all on DAZN. And we've known for months now that Haymon isn't interested in doing business with DAZN. The GGG deal was the nail in the coffin for Charlo's chances on PBC FOX. It's a great strategy for DAZN. By luring GGG, they can now bring the Charlo's with him (And if middleweight Charlo declines DAZN, then he is ducking 100% CONFIRMED) And not only that, it could cause further mayhem. We know Spence is interested in moving up weights, possibly even to middleweight. If he sees the Charlo's leave, then he may consider following (They are very close friends I'm sure). That really would be a DISASTER for Al Haymon. The one person he can't afford to lose is Spence. It's not dead though. It all comes down to whether he can keep Spence on board at FOX. He has control over the welterweights so it's likely Spence will stay, but it's not out of the question that he moves to DAZN or even ESPN. Haymon losing the GGG deal is potentially massively damaging. As I've said, there could be a chain of departures from PBC if he can't keep hold of the Charlo brothers (Which is unlikely given DAZN has literally every middleweight on the planet now)
Only if Wilder loses (which I think he will) they'd also have to reach out to some of his other fighters as well Edit: to be clear, I meant Showtime much more than Hayman
Streaming is the future... PPv events will eventually die out, PBC will be forced to join in or fall out eventually.
Showtime are clinging on and but Haymon has the fox deal and PPV. He needs PPV stars badly otherwise the money is not on PBC. The issue is if ESPN and DAZN work in a few years fans will not pay $75 for a PPV and boycott. I would not be suprised to see them also open up some kind of streaming service to try and cling on.
I think wilder is jumping ship. Charlo has said he will Heber peace pbc and supports all pbc things! I know if Mikey wins he might just go to DAZN and make all his fights on his terms using DAZN platform only!!! If Mikey wins loom for DAZN to offer him canelo like money!!!
