I think if he keeps popping his jab and keeps twisting and turning, he'll win. When Groves is stepping in, DeGale needs to be taking a step back and taking advantage of Groves' non-existant defence and lack of tucked chin. Then he can sure knock him out. But I don't think DeGale is a guy of sound mind. There's no doubt if he covers up too much or lays on the ropes, Groves will batter him. Groves is one the best hookers and combination punchers I've seen. Groves also moves very, very well - better than any British fighter since Hamed. I love his feints. He has a very good stiff jab, too, but he could use it a lot more. I find Groves's stance is much too wide, often leaving him swinging and reaching with the right hand. He's open to be countered, hurt and dropped when he's throwing the right. The thing with DeGale is - will he lose it in the head abit and start messing about on the ropes or showboating, moonwalking or something and end up being trapped in a corner or along the ropes? At some point?
To be fair Anderson is alot better than what Degale has fought. Yea he could win he beat him twice as an amature and has had some great sparing. Degale's chin has not been checked as a Pro yet so it could go either way! The good thing with Groves is were he is still so fresh its easy to adapt fresh stuff to his style.
It must be said - I much prefer the punching style of Groves over DeGale. With Groves, every punch is throw correctly - other than the right hand - every time he throws. DeGale slaps far too much.
really? i see a lot of him loading up with every shot and some get pretty wide Id like to see groves jabbing and throwing straights to Degales body, it would really upset his rythym I thought when this fight was 1st announced i thought it was 50/50, but now im not really sure i can see a way for him to win
It's going to be one sided in Degales favour. This will be a clear case of revisionism after the fight. Before the fight... Groves has a chance, Groves beat him before, Groves punches more correctly etc. After the fight... Groves got knocked down by Anderson. Groves had never gone beyone 8 rounds. etc.
Pathmanc is spot on about Groves wide shots that at times look like punches from fight night. Also people said Calzaghe slapped and he didn't do bad , I think DeGale will work off the back foot to start off with feel out what Groves is going to do and if Groves comes out swinging DeGale will catch him on way in and toy with him. If he plays ''Mr Technical'' he's not good enough to outbox DeGale IMO.
i think groves will come out trying to outbox and outmanouvre Degale for the first 4 rounds. Degale will be happy with this he has nothing to fear if Groves does this and most likely with GG's style he will tire himself out fairly quickly in return for little comparative succes. He will then probably attempt to do what Paul Smith did. pressure him and load up which plays into Degale's hand who take the half a step back and counter or look for straights shots whislt GG wings in those wide hooks. by Rounds 6-9 GG will have tired and its up to Degale to apply the pressure to produce a stoppage which im ure would give him great satisfaction.
Groves's best chance to win is to plant his feet and throw bombs. The last thing he wants to do is start moving around the ring tiring himself out..... he's not got the legs to outmanoevre DeGale for 12 rounds, who's quite good at getting the opponent to go where he wants him to go. Groves has got lots of attributes but he's with the wrong trainer. The Dark One doesn't seem to understand the concept of stamina.... there's plenty of flashy movement but they're always exhausted after half a dozen rounds.
Who is the referee for this fight?! I wonder if someone might start noticing and being so sympathetic to Degales tecnically illegal punch method, his elbowing with his front arm ala mayweather and his holding behind the head with the open glove ala Lewis and Ali? In saying that, thats some pretty good cheating company!
That's always my worry with DeGale he's inclined to use illegal tactics and has had ref's who warn him about it and in this type of fight he doesn't need the aggro with ref's. Just needs to concentrate on beating Groves down.
I've taken the 4/1 on Groves to knock him out.. People shouldn't underestimate the signficance of GG sparring. He's been chucking it with Dirrell, he has shown up on TV with various cuts & bruises. Groves is plenty ready
