First of all, I am not knocking Deontay, who I think does deserve credit for going in there and winning a belt.

However, several things make me think that his team is not serious about letting him be a champion:

    A) His rise was manufactured, even if he did make good.
    B) The talk of his "still having a lot to learn" or however it was phrased
    C) Rumors that he has already turned down Povetkin and others
    D) We know that he isn't going to be fighting Wladdy any time soon.
    E) Don King's talk of getting Tyson out of retirement

It is a time honored tradition to make the first defense a fight against a has been that certain fans would like to see one last time. Nor does this team have any shame to limit it to someone on the fringe of credible. Tyson is still ridiculous. He just is not coming back under any circumstances....

....Holyfield or Bowe would. Holyfield probably believes that he can still win, and Bowe has shown in his Muy Thai fiasco that he has not problem throwing a fight for money.

My prediction is that one of these fights will be announced in coming months.

I think Fury is at a comparable level, and to be blunt, he has proved it.

As for the others, you are correct, but they don't have the huge name recognition.

briggs and tarver have bigger names than fury or wilder.

But not as big as Bowe or Holyfield. Plus, they are half dead, and fit right in the Dustin Nichols mode of matchmaking.

i hope you meant fury has proved to be on wilders level. he'll never reach bowe, let alone holyfield. every fight in both fury and wilders career has been cherrypicked, and completely contrived.

This is the Heavyweight division, don't be surprised if he does.

It just occurred to me that Ruddock is probably a serious option as well.

any kind of low is possible with Wilder, he's a manufactured hypejob after all

i didn't see him having any complaints about the Malik Scott dive or getting an undeserved title shot
