Will Deontay Wilder be the heavyweight champion someday?

Deontay Wilder, 26, who won the bronze medal for the US in the 2008 Olympics, is now 20-0 with 20 KOs. That seems very impressive, but we should consider he's been in with vey soft opposition.

Wilder is taller than Wladimir Klitschko and about the same height as Vitali. He has longer arms and a longer reach (wingspan) than either Klitschko.

Deontay obviously has one of the most important attributes for a heavyweight: one-punch KO power.

How far will he go? What's your prediction?

Assuming both Klits retire within 4 years, I can see him pick up a title with smart matchmaking. However, it's hard to gauge his abilities with the opposition he's facing currently.

I believe but when K brothers are done boxing, and hes should work with Emanuel i think he could be very good, we can just see how much Emanuel improved Wlad!

    Yes.

I'd like to see him in with some decent gatekeepers like Dominick Guinn and Travis Walker, then we'd have a better idea of what his potential is.

He only started boxing at 20, so he needs to keep developing. He has the height, speed, athleticism and power but very raw. He's certainly a hot prospect though, certainly better than Tyson Fury

To be fair though, Fury has been fighting far better opposition despite being three years younger at age 23.

He needs to immediately run to the Emmanuel Stewart camp and hire Mackie Shilstone(the nutritionist who turned Hopkins into a Light Heavyweight and Roy into a Heavyweight, I think he might have also worked with David Haye) and he needs to build up his leg muscles. He should be coming in around 235-240. Very similar to the Klitschkos and Lennox Lewis in how much he should weigh and fight.

I haven't seen anything to suggest he'll be anything more than a fringe contender. He's looked really average at times, despite facing woeful opposition.

In this era of fragmented titles, I suppose he could be the WBA interim champion or something but I can't see him ever being the top man.

I agree but tell me honestly How much we know him yet because he is has not fought opponent with any kind of heart beat...

Wilder can only get better but he has long way to go.

He needs to add a bit of muscle. Not too much because it'll slow him down, but enough to make him a bit sturdier. If he can do that, he'll become a contender at the very least. Even if he's not a great talent, the fact hes America and has a good record means he'll get a title shot. If Sosnowski can get one, so can Wilder in a couple of years.

I think he's good and it's nice to see someone so big who can actually move. Fury, Helenius, Vitali, Wach etc., are all a similar height and yet they're all complete stiffs. Wilder has good movement for someone so tall.
