Yes. Without a doubt. Live entertainment is becoming more and more essential to networks as DVRs become more common. The networks need a vehicle to deliver commercials that will actually be watched. Mainstream American sports have long, expensive contracts with national and regional sports networks. However, boxing is a free agent and comparatively much less expensive to broadcast. Plus, it has a natural break for commercials. Two major networks dabbled last year and had success. More will follow.
I doubt it. I think people, especially Americans, love paying extravagant PPV prices and then comparing which fighters have sold the most PPV's. All of that would be ruined if elite level boxing is shown on network tv.
The problem with that is you would miss out on the coaches talking to the fighter and giving him strategies. That is always a great part.
This REALLY needs to happen, although i think its very unlikely. Why do we allow ourselves to be ripped off by satelite and cable companies ? We pay a monthly fee, then we pay extra for the sports package, then we pay again for PPV,yet the *******s see fit to cut to the ads between rounds !!!!!!!!!!!! Makes my ****in **** boil.
They can't seem to get competitive fights, any good young fighter refuses to fight another good fighter, therefore we have mismatches. Also, they need to build up names.............
No not top level boxing, there is just no enough money to compete against premium cable who put up a million or 2 for a fight card.
