Will Floyd Mayweather become more well appreciated as time goes on?

Ready for barrels of abuse, but yes I'm one of the ones who thinks he is "TBE", all of the arguments against it being him ducking people til finished, being a boring fighter, so on and so forth.

Surely 50-0 stands for something, his CV is well enough stacked for me to say that that is incredible, the number of times people said he wouldn't win, then he did are higher than some people would have you believe, and I appreciate pure talent, which he had more of than anyone else I've ever seen in the ring, even if it wasn't exciting.

Baring in mind I don't actually like him.... Is that the reason for a lot of the haters? If honest about it, is it because he's an awful man that people won't give him the credit he probably deserves? Or do people genuinely believe he isn't (at least one of) the best there has been?

The win over Canelo is still appreciating. He realistically might be the first to beat GGG.

The Cotto win will also go up since he's hall of fame bound and won 160 lineal.

Mayweather is currently held to an unfair standard by a lot fans and the nitpicking arguments will lose traction over time (e.g. nobody will give a s hit that Canelo weighed in at 152, Mayweather's win over Pac will be seen as beating the pfp number 2 while late 30s and not written off as beating an "injured" or "shot" fighter, etc.).

No. I think that his reputation was much stronger among casual fans rather than the better versed, more analytical history types who play a larger role in a fighter's legacy. I must admit that I shook my head when you said he was 50 -0. I think of it as a well curated 49 and oh as in oh yeah and he had that exhibition at end against that guy who wasn't a professional boxer. I guess we count Archie Moore's swan song against Mike Dibase but just don't give it much credence.

On the other hand, I am still suprised that anyone cared about the McGregor debacle.

You see I'd say the exact opposite, the ones slating him from what I've ever seen have been the casuals, because they don't appreciate a boxer, they want a fighter. Everyone inside boxing gives him the dues he deserves.

As for the 50-0, you're reading way too much into that if you think I considered that last one a contest, in fact it pains me to see you consider that that's what I mean.
But it factually was a professional fight and it's on his record. The same way any bum anyone fights on their debut is on it. What do you want me to do? Say 49 even though that would cause more confusion?

    The hatred will fade.

But he will likely never see the respect that fighters like Duran, Leonard, Hagler, or dozens of other fighters earned.

Don't be hurt, it is technically true. Hopefully, people will take ino consideration his "mindful " opponent selection but who knows. Frankly, there have been a few elections lately I have suprised by, but I have chalked that up to having to choose between poor alternatives.
Come to think of it I can't believe people watch reality TV . . .

Okay, sorry. I admit I am probably off on this one.

Looking at him against the History of Boxing, He just wasn't an overall active fighter. He passed on a lot of opportunity. 45 fights in 18 years doesn't impress me. Salvador Sanchez had 45 fights in 7 years, even Canelo 45 fights in 9 years...Put PBF in the 40's and some other era's, 80 plus fights with those brittle hands against the tough guys, he might be a nobody. Pot shotting and relying on his defense against the ropes just wouldn't cut it..One of the best ever? Not even close.. A HOF fighter Yes .. an ATG, borderline for me ...Although a brilliant promoter/marketing genius, no doubt about that...

P.S. -- the Pac Man fight didn't mean anything, everyone knows that fight was for '09 '10

Who else was as accomplished at 49-0 as Floyd? He wasn't in competition with Marciano to begin with.

Get with the times. Marciano would've been smoked by Vitali Klitschko. Vitali Klitschko's career would've ended at the Chris Byrd fight if it were 1930. Who cares?

I probably should. But overall boxing just hasn't been that exciting for me in the last 10 years and a helluva a lot longer than that in the HW division .. The last good battles for me were the Marquez Vazquez wars 10 years ago .. I'm still watching those over and over again as opposed to any fight today .. I couldn't even tell you all the champs in each division today , nor do I really care .. It's actually pretty sad

There's good stuff going in the small divisions right now. Estrada-Cuadras a couple months ago was excellent. The first Roman-Sor fight was also good.
