Will Floyd Mayweather become more well appreciated as time goes on?

Hahahaha! I only watched that farce because it's the only fight any of my casual mates have ever had interest in. Otherwise wouldn't have been near it.
Are you meaning to sound so condescending?

Or perhaps you can't appreciate his abilities because he isn't your type of fighter? Or because you don't like him.

Again I'll happily state that I don't like him. His talent however is undeniable, and I cringe at the sight of so many hoards of people whom he's got to so much...that they think of any excuse they possibly can clutch at, not to credit him. You seem to be one of those

Nope. He just can't compare to Greb.. or Leonard... or Ali... or Armstrong... or Duran... or Pep... or Whitaker...

It was 152, and there was no re-hydration clause.

You could certainly make the case that Cotto at 144 was more weight drained against Manny than he was against Floyd.

Whitaker has a similar career trajectory to Mayweather. But yeah, Top 10-15 is a pretty huge stretch for Mayweather. Top 20-25...not so much.

Why would he be? Unlike fighters like Greb, Walker, Dempsey etc. Theirs very little film and lots nostalgia and exaggeration about how good they actually were or wasn't. Mayweather on the other hand theirs plenty of film . And plenty of proof of his cherry picking, of his demands that almost every advantage is in his favour. Most of the average sports fans think his win of McGregor was something special. But most knowledgeable boxing fans know it was another of his many set-up. Theirs no doubt that Mayweather was a very skilled boxer. If the game was just pure skill he maybe the goat. But what about heart? Determination? Grit? Ability to deal with a major disadvantage? ( fighting from behind,a major cut, after a knock down, major weight difference, fighting a opponent with a serious advantage in an area) Mayweather Never had to deal with anything that was a real issue other than a weight disadvantage. And that was against a very green Canelo and wait for it....... Conner McGregor . Most real and knowledgeable fight fans know his career, and especially his welter and higher career is nothing more than a mirage.

You say that it's most knowledgeable fight fans who think like that, yet I am one and I'm sure many others who have disagreed with your opinion in this thread probably are too, so that's irritating.

As for all the needing to be cut or fight from behind stuff. I don't buy that at all. Are you saying he isn't as good because he managed not to get hit? I'd say the absolute opposite. We're not talking most entertaining fighters here, we're taking the best

I suppose he would squeeze into the bottom of my top 30, similar rating to a Hearns or a Jones Jr. I could see him a bit higher than that, but probably never top 20.

What I'm talking about is serious adversity. He looks so good because most of his competion was no real threat. Well beyond primes like Deloyhoya, Mosley, Pacquhia, even Judah. Over hyped fighters like a very green Canelo , or Berto, Guerrero, and Cotto, who were average and exposed before he fought them. Fighters like Marquez who fought way above his natural weight. He would've gotten hit if he fought some serious competition. (Unless you seriously believe a Robinson,Leonard, Hearns, and many other very good, great welters wouldn't have landed shots on him, and wouldn't be leading on points at some time during a hypothetical fight with him) I don't see anything he's done in a fight esp at welter ( where he's gained his most recognition)that would lead any knowledgeable fans too believe he had that ability. Thus, against a major threat, no one knows what he would've done(every fight he's had after Corrales at jr light weight was pretty much a forgone conclusion). And to me (at least) that's a major, major question mark. And if he never showed it, how can he get credit for it?

The least knowledgeable fight fans always jump to the how many have you watched, you're a casual card when they have nothing useful to say.

Thats ok, maybe if you go watch your 13th ever fight then that could be enough to have an actual boxing discussion without making yourself look silly?

You don't know boxing if you think he lacked any of those qualities you're saying. He beat Castillo and Jesus Chavez (among others) with injuries for starters. He fought as the smaller man many times. He fought from behind against Judah and Oscar. He fought guys in their primes while past age 35. He came back to walk Mosley down in the same round he got caught twice in. He did not suffer a major cut or get knocked down (other than his glove scraping the canvas) but there's a reason for that.
