As an athlete myself It is just a fact that even if Floyd has been sparring hard and keeping active, there is nothing that compares to actually being in a real fight on fight night infront of the big crowd and with another guy at the top of his fitness trying to take your head off.

Will Mayweather still have his timing and sharpness or do you think that because of the layoff Mayweather will struggle if this fight goes longer than 8 rounds.

Marquez I believe can cause the biggest upset in boxing if he is able to pull off a victory but how much will Floyd's layoff be in this fight ?

I think Floyd will not struggle due to Marquez being a patient fighter so I cannot see the fight being a fast paced fight and it now is clear to see why Floyd did not take on Manny for his comeback fight because Manny pushes the pace and Floyd would definitely have to fight hard.

    educated thoughts & opinions...

I think that the layoff will have only helped Floyd to rest, heal, and rededicate himself to his training. Floyd is a true professional, and he will never enter the fight at anything less than 100%.

it will be a factor because hes fighting the 2nd best boxer in the world. if he was fighting Quintabna or something it wouldnt matter, but going in there with a beast like Marquez it could be trouble

no amount of training/sparring can recreate the physical stress on the body that a fight does.

A layoff will have effects but there may not be negative ones. When your body rests and begins to allow those muscles and ligaments time to readjust, you are only making yourself into a better beast. Consistently fighting is not the best way to hone your skills. All of the greats too breaks, Ali, Ray Robinson, Ray Leonard...etc. Each came back in tough fights and looked sensational. It is also the addition of Floyd Fighting the 2nd BEST fighter in the world. It is definitely a motivation that will incur better tactics and more focus.

Floyd took the right fight for a "comeback" fight...pac will hopefully be there after Cotto but Cotto is gonna beat Pac up pretty easy IMO!

I'm sorry but what 17 months off and it may make Floyd better? Bull ****in ****. He may be physically teak tough but the mental side of things will be to his detriment...And its not just the layoff per se but 17 months where lingering thoughts will have cropped up as to (eg) why pac destroyed hatton/oscar in a way he couldnt,, having to answer for the umpteenth time why he wont fight the big welters etc etc,,,,,even floyds apparently unbreakable ego will have had to ask himself many questions - and if he's super confident why IS he taking on a man who only recently moved up to lightweight? IMO the guy may definetely have some ring rust

Floyd will be in shape physically and mentally but the REAL question is how is Marquez going to handle his weight gain? Will he be slowed? I think thats going to be a bigger issue than Floyds layoff.

Im hoping it has not slowed him. Hopefully his timing is still there, thats the biggest factor.

If Floyd is coming back because of money problems, I expect him to lose within three fights.

His retirement was needed to help heal his body, specifically hands. He needed a rest like that before stepping in the ring again and it should be good for him but you never know, layoffs could ruin/change fighters. In his last two fights before his retirement it was obvious he's on the decline as his activity was clearly not the same and he looked to go to the ropes more than usual looking to counter. Even he admitted he doesn't know how this will be since it's his first long layoff.
