Will Fury retire after Whyte

  1. Yup. He's thought it out and is dead serious.

The word I'd use is inessential. But, okay, if you insist, for argument's sake, worthless.

Which, as we've established, does not automatically confer worth to the thread.

To point out how silly you are and continue to be.

Inevitably, yes, at some point. At the present time, I'm browsing and interacting on BF24. How about you?

Those guys had already shown a very different personality though, especially Holyfield. It seems like they expected to wake up one day and for it all to have been a dream unless they kept fighting.

Everything he does is about this negotiating stance, making it so that his one belt is as valuable as (formerly) AJ/Hearn's three belts. Meanwhile, he's also signaling to the highly malleable WBC that he's going to accept exactly zero BS from them. He has to make everyone believe he's this close to putting the belt in the garbage and making the undisputed HW title decided by Usyk vs Hrgovic in a low profit affair.

Look at Bud Crawford, same situation but he didn't play the game and so he's getting lowballed by Spence.

Ali was pretty similar to Fury in some ways. Tyson was groomed to be champion from an early age, and fought on long after he really didn't care much anymore. Holyfield was fighting for the money to support his numerous children. Toney seemed to enjoy fighting, although that might have been an act. Roy Jones was another one who was prepped since he was young -- rather similar to Fury in that respect.

They all had their own reasons, but some of the common traits they shared with Fury give me pause.

Never thought of that "groomed from a young age" facet. To me the critical Ali-Fury difference is all those stories out there of Ali being extremely generous with his time and energy and even having random fans into his home or car.

You don't hear that so much with Fury. He's more insular and has more of his family around him.

I guess they all stay one fight too long though. Even Floyd, who was going to be the exception, got sucked into that Logan Paul debacle.

Threatening retirement serves far too many practical purposes for me to believe that Fury is seriously considering it. If he breezes past Whyte today, it's very unlikely he retires.

Saudi to fight Usyk for lots of money is a trap from the devil

Fury is in touch with God. He will retire.

There is zero chances he will retire after this (except fake retirement for several weeks or months, during what would be an inherently inactive period, anyway).

He has said this countless times now and it is still nowhere closer to the truth.

Why do people still fall for this? I think Americans seem to fall for it and the British don't.

If Usyk beats AJ and Fury doesn't take the unification fight, it is a major duck, assuming he beats Whyte.

Until he beats usyk he can't be considered the best of his era. So its up to him, beat a few more legit top 10 guys or retire prematurely and always have question marks over him.

This guy could live the high life for keeps as a singer, a dancer, a fashion designer, comedian, whatever. He doesn't need this. He's just super good at it.

I suspect he'll talk about retirement in the post-fight interview, stating something like there's no-one left for me to fight etc. Whether he actually lives up to that in the coming months I highly doubt.

I still get major vibes that he wants nothing to do with Usyk though.

    It’s fairly simple, really;

If a fight against Usyk or Joshua can be made next, Fury will take that fight

If it can’t, then he’ll retire, because he won’t be bothered to fight someone who isn’t Usyk or Joshua, and he won’t wait around for one of them to be free.
