Lineal Championship defenses: Wladimir Klitschko - 11 Tyson Fury - 1 or 7 (depending on who you ask) Anthony Joshua - 0 Deontay Wilder - 0
He only had a single defence, he's irratic in his career and we don't know how he performs against different styles. Also, you can't expect (and with Whyte next we already know) the WBC giving him the easiest (mandatory) defences possible, because he isn't American and/or a PBC fighter. So surpassing Wilder, meaning 10 defences from now on, extremely unlikely. Fury is obviously the better boxer of the 2, but he isn't a long time ruler by design and wouldn't get the easy path to do it either. Then there's the thing where Fury probably won't even fight another 10 times, five might already be a stretch.
No, he'll retire before then, but what's more impressive? If he beats Usyk, Whyte and AJ then retires, he's defended his belt again - Wilder AJ, Usyk Whyte. 4 good defence or 10 **** ones? Who gives a **** if you have 10 defences if they're against the likes of Stiverne, Breazeale, Washington etc?
Who gives a **** about lineal? Doesn't matter if you took 3 years out. He lost everything when he retired and only regained 1 belt since he came back he has no claim to anything else.
I see Fury having a max of 4, maybe 5 fights before calling it a day. He's so unpredictable though I wouldn't be surprised if he retires tomorrow. If he does have a few fights left though, these are what I want to see - assuming the stars align of course! - Whyte - Fury will take this but would like to see Whyte given his shot - Usyk - undisputed, come on - who doesn't want this? Might be a second fight in this if the first is very close (likely IMO) or a barn-stormer (doubt it) - Joshua - yes, less prestigious fight now but still want to see it - Joyce - bit out there as I don't see Joyce as a threat to Fury (he's too stiff), but just to clean the decks!
Longevity? Nah, he's just not that kind of guy. I'm with whoever said it doesn't matter as long as he fights quality. I'd rather see him make 3-5 defences against actual contenders than go 10+ against mostly journeymen, which if we're honest is what Wilder did.
For me, this is the wrong way round. Wilder has staged 0 defences because he's a beltholder, and I don't give a **** about beltholders. Fury has a defence of the real title. That is all.
Who cares? W. Klitschko's best win is probably David Haye. He reigned over an absolute shower of shite and still lost 5 times in his career. Worst era ever.
Don't see it happening. I'd tend to agree with those saying he probably only has around 4-5 more fights.
I'd say 3 fights and he'll hang them up, I'm not sure he'll go for Usyk though even if Usyk comes through the AJ rematch which I think he will. I see Fury been a very vocal pundit in a few years time promising to come back and clear up the heavyweights aged 45 but never actually having any intention of doing so.
Thank God Surrix is on a ban I dont think i could handle the battering of basic English in his retort
