Sugar Hill won't come up with any gameplan of note because he's a fraud on the gravy train who's almost got Fury KO'd twice now with his delusional advice. It's funny how everyone has such a love affair with this clown that there was basically no criticism of him after the MMA fight. Most trainers would be ripped apart after training their boxing champion to get humiliated by a MMA fighter. But everyone just blames Fury and gives 'Sugar' a pass because they think he's a 'cool dawg'. Sugar literally implied that they'd just put it on this opponent, land a big RH and go home. He had zero understanding of the threat being posed. It was his job to study the opponent and realise he had big power, a good chin and enough striking skill to be taken seriously. Instead he set Fury up to almost get beat. Having said that, I'm sure Fury will try to go to Usyk's body a lot, sure. He hurt Cunningham bad to the body before the KO and he also hurt Wallin bad to the body, who spoke about it after the fight. Whether he can impact Usyk that way, who knows. Usyk will be prepared for it. But Fury can get inside and throw all kinds of stuff so it won't be like fighting predictable joshie or dubious. If Fury can't land with his clean boxing, he'll probably just come forward and let his hands go and swarm. Even the most skilled fighters can struggle with that.
Sure, why not? Let him do it. The best body puncher North of 160, and just one of the best in the sport in general, Gassiev did too. So did AJ who hits harder than Belly, as does Dubois who tried to murder Usyk's future children and burst his bladder. Will Usyk target Belly's chin given how often he's been hurt and dropped, a bunch of times by featherfists? That's what I am talking about.
I would like to hope not... I'm pretty sure it's a crime to desecrate a corpse. And I imagine the cameras would (hopefully) pull away if things ended up going that far anyway.
When you go to the body against someone that much shorter you open yourself to counters and Fury will of course be well aware of that, so probably not much if he doesn't manage to make into a close quarter brawl.
Normally i would say fury has a lot of tools in his toolset to beat usyk ( size , reach , mass , clinch , more punch resistance etc ) while usyk has basicly only his skills and the hope to scoring points . What makes me not so sure is his common sense currently . Even when ngannou was a big unknown it should be fury,s ( and sugarhill,s ) common sense that a tactic to clinch and leandown a beast of a mma heavyweight is very probably to backfire .
Fury has always manhandled his opponents even heavy set ones like Whyte & Wlad. Wlad who was a career clincher was totally outmuscled by Fury and gassed. Heavyset boxers most of the time have poor stamina. Nevermind a debut boxer like Francis who was expected to gas out and go weak...it didn't happen which was impressive. It was a precedent setting fight. Regardless of Fury's form, Francis fought like a pro fighter, total composure stuck to a gameplan. Fury adjusted and fought a scared low pace fight to edge out a win knowing another knockdown would lose him the fight. He had to assess Francis on the fly. The real problem for me was Fury's balance was clearly a little off and that Kronk jumping in was putting him off balance AND he didn't use his jab well enough AFTER the adjustment to fight scared. part of the reason was again that ring rust and balance wasn't quite there for Fury to use his jab like he can to pepper opponents. If a rematch occurred Fury would fight different. This "kronk" walk em' down style only works against fighters who gas out or can't outmuscle Fury. This is why on paper Joe Joyce and Zhang are very dangerous opponents for Fury. Zhang lesser because he's very static with not the best stamina. Francis outmuscled Fury and didn't gas so that new "style" Fury imposes was no good and he wasn't prepared to go back to classic stick and move Fury. Fury is getting on a bit now so that stick and move style is pretty much gone...unless he were to rematch Francis & train for it...and he won't bring it for Usyk because it's not the right tactic. I don't think Fury will bring any style for Usyk, he's going to dog fight him
@miniq : great posting . you may be right that its as simple as "overconfidence" and not a loss of common sense since fury was able to outmuscle and manhandle everybody in the past . This will of course work on usyk easily also . When it comes to ngannou i think we might have seen the physically most powerful athlete that ever entered a boxing ring . Thanks for your opinion !
Fury doesn't have the power or the skills/attributes to land a fight ending bodyshot to Usyk. You need to have explosiveness like a Joshua, Gassiev or Dubois, and the ability to land quick, short, pinpoint uppercuts to Usyk to get his attention. Fury's shots these days are all loopy caveman swings from far out, or clubbing stuff from in the clinch. If he does land bodyshots it's usually against tired or static targets that he's able to bull back to the ropes and while hefty they don't carry the sort of stunning power that drops fighters unless they're already ready to go. Here he's trying to go for Wallin's body. Even though he lands some good ones a majority are kind of slapping shots, and he needs to be completely leaning his weight on Wallin to pin him in place to land them. He tries to do that with Usyk and he'll get turned and completely vulnerable on the front foot and ripe to be countered. This content is protected
Fury KO's AJ, Dubious and Gassiev with one hand blindfolded. If Brediis and Berterbiev can make Usyk struggle then Fury will.
Here are the actual types of shots that hurt Usyk to the body. Notice they're all quick, compact and thrown by men known for their power. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
