You could compare this fight to Morales vs Barerra. The reason I don't understand why they are not fighting next is both of these were not superstars until they faced one another.

Have one classic fight, FOTY and then do a trilogy with both of those as PPV's

 

As an event it wont get close no because as Rob says the popularity's not there but for us fight fans it will be a sensational fight. I disagree about them not being superstars till they fight 1 another though, a Gamboa win over John and Juanma over Rafa Marquez especially convincing ones would give them both fantastic names on thier record and build the fight up even more.

You're talking THE highest echelon stuff, the 'every else' still contains superstars. This fights 1 of the best geuinely possible fights out there but you cant look past fighters the quality of John and Marquez and not say that a win over these guys would give even more credibility and even more hype to this already eagerly anticiapated fight. Granted they gotta get through but its nice to see Arum take these risks as we now get 2 or 3 great fights where as in your method we'd only be guaranteed 1

 

The everyone else list doesn't contain superstars. Only Mayweather and Pacquiao can sell over 250k PPV's. Maybe Cotto can be added to that list. When you can sell than many PPV's your a superstar, until then your just another B level fighter and not a superstar.

If Gamboa fights Chris John and Celestina Cabalerro next, and Lopez fights Rafael Marquez and Ello Rojas next, the 2 fighters will have all 4 belts but if they fought it would still be on regular HBO.

If there next fights were agaisnt one another, it would be on regular HBO. If its as good a fight as everyone anticipates and gets fight of the year, they can do 2 more fights which will be HBO PPV and will draw 250k plus and make everyone invovled millions.

Morales vs Barerra 1 was on regular HBO, the last 2 fights were on HBO PPV. The objective of Top Rank as the promoter of Gamboa/Lopez is to make them a PPV calibre fighter, and they won't do that until the fight eachother.

Bradley, Alexander, Khan, Berto, Marquez, Martinez, Williams, Cotto, Chavez Jnr all B level they wont make more than $2million for there next fights. Same for Gamboa & Lopez.

If they fight eachother for $1million, the next fight they will get 5x that amount.

 

So it wont make a difference if its the next fight or not as you've pointed out they both are 3 fights away to be a 'superstar' in your definition. Also you are taking out the possibilty that guy blows the other out of the water, for the fights sake lets hope not but both guys have been suspect defensively it is possible. That happens next fight you could lose 1 of your picks to take over Pacman and Cotto as top draw without cashing in on those fights prior to Gamboa-Lopez. Put em in with these top tier fighters now, get them and Top Rank paydays and even with losses the fight could be made down the line. Put them together now you're lsing 1 potential cash cow straight away, pointless

In your opening post on this thread you said you didnt get why they dont fight each other next. You claimed a superstar is defined in PPV sales, using lb 4 lb top 2 fighters as your example. Then you said after they fight each other next they'd still need 2 fights to be pay per view draws- so it dont matter if they dont fight each other next. Whatever the order they still need 3 fights by your logic, kinda answered your own question. Besides, as ive implied, theres no guarantee both fighters will come out as ppv fighters after the fight anyway you'd be losing money

You dont give enough credit to John and Rafa Marquez incidently, wins over them send out a good message.

I think people are very much overlooking Marquez and John here.

 

This would generate nowhere near as much hype as either Tito-Oscar or Morales-Barrera.

As for the fight, Gamboa has way too much for JuanMa. Decimation.

I think Marquez will stop Lopez in a fairly one-sided fight.

John certainly has a chance against Gamboa, though I can't see the fight happening. It's not in the WBA's interests to force it, and Bob seems determined to make Gamboa vs Lopez at some stage.
