Obviously I would love to see him get in personally, as he was/is my favorite boxer. As we all know, he wasnt the most skilled boxer, but he always gave everything he had in the ring, which was enough to win him a few titles along the way. So do you guys think he deserves it or not?
Good point. I still dont understand what McGuigan did exactly to make him hof worthy? I honestly see gatti as an overall better boxer, and if Mcguigan is deserving then Gatti sure as hell is.
McGuigan shouldnt be in either, neither of them should, we have to stop letting dross in at some point otherwise it'll just get more and more diluted. No offense to Gatti, hes not dross but hes just not top class.
Well put. But when it comes to getting into the HOF, do you think things other than just skill should be added into the equation like heart etc?
If heart helps him overcome world class opponents then yes definitely but Gatti was beaten badly by DLH and Mayweather despite his heart which is why I dont think hes quite there. Alot of fighters have great heart but never achieve anything significant, they will always be remembered by the people who watched them so Gatti doesnt need the hall of fame.
I don't think talent should be the only criteria. In fact, considering it's a "Hall of Fame" not "Hall of Achievements" should it matter at all? The people who belong there, are those who made a contribution to the sport and McGuigan and Gatti certainly did. Even though they weren't the best fighters, they deserve recognition for helping the sport in the way that they did.
I deff agree the Gatti will always be celebrated for being the warrior that he was and doesnt need the HOF. As you've already stated, you personally dont think Gatti deserves HOF status. But do you think he will make it in?
Then I refer you to my other post where I say we may as well let everyone in. It all depends on your personal stance on where we should draw the line, personally I feel it should be a lot higher but I understand your point of view.
