Absolutely, im sure everyone will agree about that. I just wanna see where everyone's head is at on the subject of him getting into the HOF.
Purely in terms of the quality of Gatti's record, he doesn't deserve it. He was badly beaten every time he faced a world class fighter, and even some guys who were below world class (Ivan Robinson, Angel Manfreddy, Micky Ward) beat him and in some cases dominated him. In terms of the excitement he brought to his bouts, the entertaining and enduring quality of them, he more than deserves it. I think the second bit and Gatti's death will result in him getting into the Hall, one way or another.
Yea its impossible to deny that Gatti's biggest fights also tended to be his biggest loses. Im one of the people who think his contributions to boxing (including his fights, heart, "world" titles) were enough to get him in. I agree that his death can only help him when they do decide whether to put him in the HOF or not.
Kind of off topic, but with Gatti's death will he still have to wait five years to be looked at for induction?
Good fighter who was exciting and gave its all and every fight he was entertaining but his resume is not good enough to enter the HOF. :hat
probably not. but in reality it doesnt really matter b/c he will be remembered more than a lot of fighters who are in.
I think Gatti deserves to be in based on what he did for the sport, more so than on his accomplishmens inside the ring. He was invloved in some of the classic fights of the last 20 years....not just one defining fight but sevral.
Thats pretty much my basis for supporting the idea Gatti is HOF status. Its already been said, and everyone knows Gatti's boxing skills were limited, but he was good for our sport and to me that one of the things that plays a roll in him deserving the hof vote.
Gatti had a great spirit and I loved it. But if he does go into the hall of fame, it would be for being the most spirited punching bag ever.
