Even within the HOF there are different levels. Some guys are first tier no doubt about it HOF like Duran, Ali, Marciano, Hagler. And other guys are second and third tier HOF who are there because of particular accomplishments. Which is not a knock against them they just do not have the complete resume of some of the higher tier guys. I think Gatti is a third tier HOF. He won titles at multiple weight classes. He was involved in countless fights of the year. And comeback fighter of the year a couple of times also. Plus he was an icon for a generation of boxing fans. When the name "the true blood and guts warrior comes up" you think of him. Whenever you hear the AC/DC song Thunder you are probably like me and think of Gatti.
any fighter that steps into the ring has guts, gatti took a lot of punishment but had he been technically better he would have beaten better fighters, which is what it comes down to
Gatti makes it easy. Despite the fact that he was far from an elite fighter the man is a legend of the sport and the hall of fame is all about immortalizing boxing's legends.
will he? yes. does he deserve to? **** no. more deserving fighters out there who are eligible for entrance but are still out in the cold. it's a joke hall anyway. far too easy to make it.
:thumbsup A great post! Taking the above post into consideration. And the fact that we can put fighters who are in the HOF on different levels (which they obviously were), I would have no objection!! A thought provoking post, that made me consider something that I had not previously (nor would have in the future, if I am honest!). Thanks Dave!!
Thats what I thought it was about, which is why I think Gatti will get in. Everyone has their own view on what the hof is about.
he should get in for what he gave everytime he went in the ring, for what he brought to the sport.people saying he shouldnt get in because he lost to de la hoya & mayweather are missing the point completely
