That's a good question. Not sure about power but he's certainly more skilled than AA.

Another Abraham. To be fair to Abraham he improved his skill a lot when he moved up as he knew he didn't have the cheat code any more.

Agree. I think they are on the same par in terms of raw power. The difference is made by GGG's boxing skills.

We'll only know once he steps up. How was his power at 165lb as an amateur?

KOvalev said Gennady hits harder than him and is a machine. That says everything abou his power. I doubt Abraham at 160 hits harder than Povetkin or Wach.

I doubt that Golovkin hits harder than Kovalev ... but imho he IS the better boxer. That said, if Kovalev @ 175 could feel GGG's shots, you'd better believe that the guys at 168 will feel them too. Yes, his power carries up - especially because Gennady doesn't just flail about, but sets his shots up. :bbb

His power will carry. Because it comes from his form and fine motor coordination, his fundamentals are good and will translate to effectiveness at any reasonable body mass. Bank on it.

Anyone who studies power and form call tell you AA and GGG are nothing alike in terms of fundamentals, particularly balance. AA often threw himself off balance to throw, particularly the left, he was already winging it literally as hard as he could. Though he sometimes connected for a big result, it was really a pretty flawed way of doing things.

His overhand right was huge, but he did have pretty good biomechanics on it - but even still I remember the big shots mostly coming when he was also literally moving forward to add to the momentum.

Lets not get started on punch selection, and ability to find and make opportunities for big shots. Or the fact that even at 160 tons of AA's fights went the distance.

Dont get me wrong, AA was and is a pretty good fighter. But GGG is about 2 levels above in terms of both power and offensive boxing.

Good point. He was as dominant as he's right now at 165.

    KO'd Bute with headgear @ 165

The power is there, at 168 its all about having the skill to land the good shots against the top guys.

I guarantee that extra 8 pounds is not going to let people suddenly start shrugging off and ignoring his shots. Even at 168, we arent going to see guys "take one to give one" - with the possible exception of Froch pulling it off in spots.

No way this could be known until he actually fights at the weight. Abraham it was assumed would, until he started banging up against these bigger guys. One thing Gololvkin will take is his skillset. Arthur Didn't have as good a pedigree to fall back on as Golovkin does.
