He unifies, breaks the middleweight defense and ko records and moves up to become champ at 168 (wasteland).
If he ever steps up to LHW, I don't know.

id say 168 is his limit right now....unless the current crop of LHWs fades off and theres a weaker crop

i know ill take some heat for this and some might say im crazy...but i think guys like joe smith and fonfara walk through his punches and hurt him

I agree with a lot of that, he can win a title at 168 lb very likely, but if he goes to LHW it would be for a megafight against the top dog there, and he likely takes a loss.

Smith Jr and Fonfara are indeed tough fights, although I'd pick GGG right now. IMHO Smith Jr's skills might be too basic and Fonfara isn't that tough. But I see your point, there is definitely a case to be made for either Smith or Fonfara.

I doubt a move to 175 is realistic at this point. 168 certainly isn't out of the question. But I get the impression very few realize the difficulty jumping from 160 to 168 is, and has been historically.

Not to mention, age, body type, and where you started off, dictate a lot of how successful one will be moving up.

Sad thing is, too many noobies here seem to think moving up in weight is the route to greatness. I guess when you worship popular fighters who have done that, one thinks it's the norm.

At 35 years old, like Cotto, Bradley, Pacquiao, Klitschko and the other old timers ready for that social security ass beating by a young, economically viable champion/contender, he will fight anyone willing to "Cash him outside, How bout dat!"

i agree smiths skills are not like gggs.....at the same time i could see him walking through gggs punches and if he can get to ggg hed prob rip into him...at the same time i could see ggg beating him too....

Yeah, Smith keeps surprising us (who picked him over Fonfara + he was the underdog against Hopkins), so who knows? I like him, seems a decent chap.

I think he will move up once he can get all the belts.

yeah smith does seem like a real nice, blue collar, fella

my thinking isnt really based on any skill....i just think his size and strength would be too much...if he could weather a little ggg storm i think ggg might be in some trouble....but thats easier said than done....ggg puts punches together very well and he does hit pretty good....

I believe if he stays unbeaten he will do what Calzaghe did (not comparing them as fighters before anybody jumps on me) and go up for a couple of money fights when it's nearly time to call it a day.

He's definitely got a chance, agreed. Let's see how he does in a very stacked LHW division, I think that will give us a better idea of where he's at. Also seeing GGG-Jacobs and hopefully Canelo later this year should give us a better idea of GGG's abilities at this stage of his career.

There is a slight possibility that Smith Jr's just been really fortunate and isn't really a top 5/10 LHW, i.e. lucky punch to KO Fonfara and caught a very old Hopkins at the right time. Not saying I agree with that, but I'd really like to see him in more good fights :thumbsup:He's got size and strength and heart for sure.
