Probably already been said, but Americans love Golovkin. Only hoodrats don't like him because he was going to comatose IV Jr.
I don't think people realize how unpopular boxing is in the states. I'm an American, born and raised in New York, and I can tell you from me watching and going to fights since the late 80's that the sport's popularity has waned greatly over the past few decades. No one is crying for anyone in the sport, because frankly the sport isn't that popular at all. It doesn't have the same type of following as it does in Europe. Not even close.
Most americans don't have any idea who Gennady Golovkin is. I say that statement with complete confidence. I personally think he's a fantastic fighter, but the majority of my country isn't throwing praise or vitriol towards him because he's not known at all in the country. Go up to 100 random people on the streets, and you'd be lucky if 5 people know who he is.
Do people know who Canelo or Cotto are unless they are Mexican or Puerto Rican ? Boxing is not a popular sport anymore and regular people may just know Mayweather and Pacquiao.
This he's been retired since 2008. Though this thread is a bait thread started by a non-American but it's got the TS desired reaction.
HOnestly? I don't know, I don't think so. I get it, they're PPV draws and they can bring out the boxing community to come out to their fights. But the boxing community isn't a direct reflection of the entire American community. Ask people who Tom Brady is in the United States and ask people who canelo Alvarez or Miguel Cotto is. I think you know the answer as to who would be universally recognized. I don't think it's fair to say only PR or Mexican people know those guys, but as I stated before, boxing is a very unpopular sport in the States. It doesn't hold the same level of popularity as it did back in the roaring 20's through the 80's. It's incredible to see how it's fallen out of popularity.
No need for the infantile comments. You could've specified what demographic you were speaking of, but when you say "AMericans," you're making a generalized statement. Maybe if you specified a little more clearly, you would've received a more direct response. Anyway, no need to post back at me since I have a pretty good idea on your lack of intelligence from your posts.
I was replying to the OP who used the term in the same context, why didn't you bother him with your extraneous drivel? I'm well aware boxing is a minority sport in all but a few countries in the world as is everyone else who follows this sport. We all know the people who hate on Golovkin, and we all know why. Amen.
Is it the same people that hate Kovalev but love Ward. Or the same PEOPLE that bought Mayweather vs Berto?
I am sorry you didn't notice its relevance, and had to resort to insults because of your blindness. I can repost anytime the same post, and anyone can read it, you should really consider that before replying, it would be a simple task for me to show everyone you are pretending you didn't understand the point of the post.
