If Vitali isn't "as good as he once was" then I don't want him to come back at all. Wladimir can kick Peter's ass instead.
I don't think he would blitz Golota early, but probably wear him down in a few rounds. He doesn't come out of the gate like Tyson or Brewster nor does he have the snap that they had. He's a strong/clubbing puncher, not a KO artist type puncher.
Exactly. Make no mistake though, if VK isn't up to it he shouldn't return at all. I believe he will however, he'll return long enough to beat the eventual winner of Maskaev/Peter and then he'll retire to let Wladimir collect the belt.
Do you think it would be smart to take a tuneup or would that be too much of a risk with the training?
I think he'd "test the waters" by trying for a 1st round KO since it worked so well for Brewster and let's face it, his style is most similar to Lamon's, not Lennox's or Tyson's.
No tune-up. Vk has the type of fighter mentality to go all out & get the big win straight away. A tune-up can damage his ego or ruin his chances altogether if he should lose, even by some freak injury or something. He wants to hold the WBC and possibly another major belt while his brother holds the other 2 so they can make history as well as a bit o' money along the way.
Its not the power that Golota struggles with, its the speed, Tyson, Lewis and Brewster had it, Peter not so much. Golota actually has a good chin but he is slow defensivelly, he can take a good punch but he cant take 3-4 combination power punches in a row, Peter would only deliver single punches.
Also true. I think it's more of an accuracy & delivery thing though, but speed does play an important role no doubt. Tyson would bob & weave his way inside before you knew he was there & then he'd unleash a 4 or 5 punch combo, sometimes consecutively, before the opponent had a chance to compensate. Lewis worked from the outside with the jab to set his opponent up for the heavy leather, a lot like Wladimir. Peter does none of these things good, the only thing he has is power & that's a bit over rated IMO.
I think Vitali needs tuneup fight with someone decent before taking on the Peter Maskaev winner. He could fight his tuneup on the undercard of the Maskaev Peter fight, which would be a perfect buildup.
Amazing that Golota fought in the Olympics basically as a Cruiserweight, under 200. Turned pro at 217 and never looked close to anything like this slim again. Remarkable bulk job and a good natural athlete. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kp3QxWwNgZE&feature=related
Absolutely yes! The man sells tickets and is exciting. People want to watch him. He has charisma and fanatical fans. And, oh yeah, he just layed the wood on a prospect that many people predicted would blow him up in a couple rounds or so. Darn right he's fighting for title after that horrible eye injury heals up.
there's a real chance he will, he got one after being out of action for a long time and now he's coming of a good win
There's a good chance he will. a lot of champs are after an easy title defense for a nice payday and Golota fits the model. Chagaev may take the bite there before his mandatory.
