It will be more competitive because Floyd's a year older. Cotto's better than Ghost, but Ghost is younger/fresher versus an even further from prime Floyd. I think Floyd wins a close UD.
Well i wouldnt necessarily say Cotto is better than Ghost. Styles make fights, Guerrero being a southpaw, two good hands, uses more lateral movement and has a much higher punch output and better stamina imo.
I wouldn't say he uses more lateral movement. Instead of a stiff orthodox jab though, Guerrero has a good straight left, both are good for penetrating Floyd's shell. Guerrero probably has an edge in stamina. Volume as well. Timing and accuracy are something Cotto has proven superior in. Cutting off the ring is something I haven't really seen Guerrero do. He rocked Berto and then wrestled his flat-footed ass to the ropes, he didn't stalk and corner him. Floyd likes to predominantly step to his right though so feinting the right jab and following up with a left and mixing it up could be a tactic that works for him.
I don't give a **** what you would say, especially if you believe Ghost has superior skills than Cotto. Cotto was a terrific fighter and to this day remains a good one. But he was far more skilled, during his prime-ish run, than Ghost is or ever will be. There's no telling how good Cotto would've been had he not been plastered by that cheating joke. And then later ran through by that trashcan fueled by ped's
Guerrero has showed great timing and trajectory with his left while Cotto has amazing timing with his jab. Cotto boxed at his best vs Mosley but other than.that, hes always had to eat some shots to deliver i.e Corley, Torres, Judah, Pacquiao etc. I wouldnt say his timing is better but cutting the ring off yes because he beats u down, not outboxes you. Guerrero is much more of a boxer who can mix it up if he needs to. His lateral movement and footwork is definitely better than Cotto.
Genaro hasn't really paid attention to how Guerrero fights. Robert couldn't corner a past prime but laterally moving Casamayor. He doesn't effectively cut off the ring, nor does he have exceptional footwork in the middle of it. As a matter of fact, for large stretches of fights, he's incredibly flat-footed. I would actually say Guerrero and Cotto(e)'s stamina is nearly the same. The only difference between them, is Guerrero uses the time while he's gassed to wrestle and lean and get in a few body shots to score points, while Cotto(e) gets on his bike. Cotto(e) though, retains pretty good technique with his punches and defense, while Guerrero starts to visibly slap with his punches and simply leaves his chin out to get hit.
BS. Guerrero wouldn't have been able to outmaneuver a stalking Margarito as long as Cotto(e) had in their two fights. And please, give me an example of a fight where Guerrero has effectively cut off the ring against a laterally moving opponent.
stiff orthodox jab is superior for getting Floyd on the defensive and resetting imo The occasional southpaw left gets by every now and then, but it takes more to throw and has greater recoil compared to jabs
Guerrero has better consistency in his stamina, but I'm not sure he will do any better or worse than Cotto did because of it.
The way Guerrero fights inside is closer to Hatton than it is Cotto. Hatton got his ass beat on the inside and managed to win one round for his troubles
Cottos style has served him well and has been more effective more so than Guerreros but that doesnt mean Guerrero is less skilled than Cotto. Again styles make fights. Its my opinion that the style of a two handed southpaw like Guerrero poses more problems for a primarily defensive fighter like Floyd than a one handed orthodox fighter like Cotto.
southpaws main weapon against Floyd is their left. While Guerrero is two handed he's extremely dependent on his jab
Cotto's defense and body positioning were surprisingly effective against Floyd's offense. Cotto also ate some good shots. I expect Ghost to eat some shots too, and I can't say that he'll be as able to withstand them as Cotto was. One thing people fail to realize is Floyd's brilliance. He's the first one to acknowledge his legs going and rather than cry about it he's made adjustments. It seems like every fight (the past couple of years) Floyd's been packing on more strength and more pop into his punches. Case in point: Floyd hurt Cotto more frequently and in greater intensity than a full blown JMW in Trout could. I expect Floyd's power to increase again during his preparations for this fight. This fight will be very competitive though. Primarily because Floyd's old as hell for a boxer. (excluding outliers like Hopkins of course) Floyd's style shouldn't last very long, age-wise, because it relies too much on reflexes. BHop's style relies moreso on deflecting shots, tying up opponents, frustrating them, confusing them, lateral movement, distance/range, and all-around mind ****ing. BHop has been able to "cheat time" by rolling with punches and mastering technical laws which govern physical combat. Floyd relies too much on his ability to shoulder roll to cheat time the way BHop has (IMO).
