I think we all pretty much know by now that’s this DAZN deal has a 2 year break clause
and isn’t the 8 year Billion dollar thing as advised.

I know there has been plenty of threads about this topic before, but for those that missed the news https://www.*******.com/report-new-pbc-fox-deal-finalized-fox-fs1-broadcasts--131497 Showtime/ Haymon have clearly decided to slap Hearn around the chops and look to have taken away any faint chance of Eddie managing to acquire any of their fighters.

Mikey Garcia, Charlos, Gervonta Davis etc = forget about it, they ain’t going anywhere.

Eddie has been saying recently that showtime etc won’t be able to keep up for long financially and he will basically be able to outlast them.. well as we can see from the news that’s been proven wrong.

Even ESPN/Arum have also responded and perhaps even more worryingly for Hearn have beaten him in purse bids for Hooker-Saucedo despite having only 25% of the purse bid on their side. Hooker as we know, being one of the few US fighters Eddie has managed to sign- and even he isn’t all that, certainly not enough to lure US subscribers.

And you can bet that Arum will have to be dead before Pacquiao is allowed to leave, so Eddie can forget that also.

We’ve also seen and debated that Eddie is having to prop up his cards with British level fighters like Quigg, Burton and Coyle which is a joke really, especially for the American fight fans.

This is not an anti Hearn thread, but I’m just wondering if anybody thinks this deal is going to work out, or will Eddie and Matchroom USA be sent packing back to Essex by the yanks?

The DAZN owners are obviously big money people, but they will want to see results- they are business men, not people who will just flush money down the drain.

You can count it as a loss for Hearn but what’s happened is brilliant for boxing.

Hearn and DAZN have gave the other companies a big kick up the arse and it looks like the USA at least are going to have a really competitive market and big fights being made. We could do with something similar happening our side.

I hope it doesn't work out. He can then come back and concentrate on the British fighters. Im all for British boxing doing well. We don't get everything dazn get so it doesn't make a difference really.

There certainly is a good chance that it might not work out and you're right Arum/ESPN and Haymon/PBC have responded with big deals the latter more recently with the new Fox deal it is still early days though i would not write Fast car off just yet.

That being said even if he does ultimately fail hopeful the threat of Hearn in America succeeding forces the status quo to up their game, which as said the new deals for Arum/ESPN and Haymon/PBC looks like that is what is happening.

You can't underesitmate just how much Sky sports helps Matchroom in the UK to get the message across.

He just doesn't have anything near to that in the US and the boxing fans, even the casuals are a complete different kind of market to the UK.

It's a tough ask especially on a new platform and the smug arrogant 'banter' just won't work over there imo. Americans don't take to kindly to them unless its one of their own.

No, but I like Hearn. You also can't blame him for giving it a go either.

Sky Sports News does massive things over here, partly the reason boxing has took off so much.

Even managing to get GGG, Joe Parker and whoever else on his channel won't help. (I say this cause he gets on well with said promoters and could likely happen, especially Parker who he had dibs on should he have beaten Whyte)

I think he'll give it a a good go but eventually falter. In terms of DAZN, they need to get something like NBA or NFL to really make waves. Get something like that on board then you could maybe have a chance.

Agree with the poster above. Sky Sports News are the reason he has access to the football casual market. They are the ones who get to see the weigh ins, the little Eddie Hearn interviews with Jim White, the gloves are off shows. That is what gets them interested and he just doesn't have that over in the states.

Look at what he was saying with Daniel Jacobs when he signed him. How Daniel has a brilliant backstory. How he's going to shout from the rooftops about him. How he's going to make America wake up and see what Daniel is all about. How he's underappreciated, how he should be bigger, how he's going to make American shows like nights out as we have them over here. How it has gone? Nothing like that. Can anyone honestly say Daniel Jacobs is more well known now than when he wasn't with Eddie?

I don't want Eddie to fail but it's a very very tough ask to replicate what he did over here and he has Sky to thank for that. Sky have always been a slick organisation. When Warren was with them, he just couldn't use them to their full potential and Hearn took over and has done that. However he has no such help over in the states and that's why he will find it very hard to crack it over there

I can't understand wanting DAZN and Eddiebto fail. Surely with theamount of shows DAZN have planned is good for boxing in the America?

Otherwise you get the likes of G.Davis, Charlos etc being very inactive.

To honest i think DAZN have to much money not to succeed. Hearn seemed very confident of adding two or three big name fighters soon as well.

I would love for it to go tits up. I don’t hate Hearn but he desperately needs to be humbled. To make grandiose statements about taking over America, mocking promoters, showing zero respect to someone like Finkel who is older than him and even older than his dad I think...

It would be comical if he ends up being booted back to Essex with his tail hanging.

Eddie has to try to sound confident about signing fighters, but I just can’t see it happening. He been having “great conversations” with Mikey Garcia etc for ages, and they ain’t gone anywhere. The US promoters / networks have pretty much closed ranks on him. The fighters won’t leave Haymon and the money trump card eddie thought he had been holding has pretty much been eliminated anyway with the new PBC deals with increasing money and dates plus the prospect of PPVs.

Plus US fight fans/fighters look to be less then impressed with the AJ-Wilder stuff...it’s looks a hopeless task for Hearn.

I don't care what happens as long as the condition of boxing in America improves greatly. The promotion of fighters, and inactivity of fighters has been tragic for a few years now. I don't know what the American promoters and networks have been up to, but they need to up their game massively. If Eddie helps improve that by simply competing or takes over himself, I'm happy either way.

Where are the stars of American boxing? There's enough talent.

I'm not sure the new deal for pbc will have that much bearing on whether Hearn will succeed in usa, or not.
As far as I can see all Whats happening is pbc have been given a bit of a lifeline and in reality all this means is that pbc are going to be around longer.
Pbc has lost some serious money since it started and if we cast our minds back, Bob and Oscar showed a bit of solidarity and had a unofficial banding together to try keep pbc down.
Bob and oscar took out a court case against Pbc as well, in them early days, which amounted to not very much and was soon thrown out by a judge.
Much of the banding together etc we are seeing now, is a reflection of what happened back then. Pbc are still around but have lost a lot of money.
The money that they will get from this new deal, well the investors from Waddell and reed need to see some coming back, so how much is available to outbid Hearn may not be as rosy as first seemed.
I hear what posters are saying about sky and how important they have been towards eddies success and they are right.
Without sky Eddie would not of done what he's done but now matchroom are even stronger and who knows what the future brings, I'm sure Barry has thought about setting up his own channel before and now with the position matchroom boxing is in after the next contract with sky is up, maybe matchroom look at this route.
Imo if pbc is still there after 3 and half years now, Eddie will still be there in the same time.
Eddie will be studying what al did and didn't do wrong and be building up his own path for a major assault on u.s boxing.
I think in the long run Eddie will succeed for DAZN with regards to boxing, let's see where he is in a couple of years.

Hearn's arrogant, smug behaviour? His pathetic mocking of Shelly Finkel?
